In our mediation work we frequently deal with the pain of separation, betrayal and loss. Simply put, it is very hard to separate from someone you once loved. The emotions you feel are normal but they can lead you to a place of darkness and bitterness. In mediation, we try and help each person understand the stages of grief in separation and the importance of forgiveness, for your own sake. If you are finding yourself in an increasingly tense situation, try mediating before things get explosive. We are offering free phone calls to help you assess what to do. We can help you calm things down BUT never take safety lightly. If things have been physical before, if there are weapons in the house, if there are underlying addiction or mental health issues, call Hiatus House, a local shelter. You can also call the Information Coordinator at Bridging Family Conflict to help find resources.

This crisis, and the lack of ability to access court right now, could make families feel "trapped". Please know we are here to help. Mediation can be used to resolve all or some of the issues in a family law dispute, whether you are in court or not. Even if it only helps with one issue, or worse yet, doesn't succeed, judges will be pleased that you tried to resolve things in this way. The truth, however, is that the success rate of mediation is over 90%. It does work, ve...ry efficiently. What we offer is flexibility. This coronavirus is causing a lot of chaos for everyone. We are mediators - we are used to working in that environment and we want to help. We remain open by appointment at the office location at 3231 Tecumseh Road East but are offering clients telephone and zoom interviews and appointments as well. We can mediate any family dispute in this manner. We are also asking that anyone who has travelled outside Canada in the past 2-3 weeks not attend until they have been symptom... free for 14 days. None of our staff have travelled in that period and none of our staff are ill. We will also be following social distancing suggestions.
