The store will be open from 10 to 4 on Thanksgiving weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It's a great time to combine a hike out to the lighthouse with a little shopping! Beautiful matted photos dating back as far as 1923! Handknit sea star dishcloth sets, winter hats and sweaters. Ready-to-frame art prints (including signed prints by the late Shelagh Duffett). Fundy Treasures candles. Buoy tree ornaments. Wall posters of the Grand Manan Archipelago! Books, cast iron li...ghthouse and lobster wall hooks! Lighthouse and marine-life socks. Mugs and totes (just a few left). And so much more... Perfect for holiday gifting to someone who loves Grand Manan! Our store is tax-free, and proceeds go to the maintenance of the lighthouse. Hope to see you this weekend!

Thanks for a great summer. Despite the pandemic, we had more visitors this summer than the last 10 years beating 2016, our previous highest year, and the greatest number of New Brunswick visitors ever. We had great staff and volunteers this summer which made everything run smoothly with all of the added Covid-19 protocols. After Labour Day, our gift shop will be open Friday to Sunday through September, volunteers and weather permitting, at reduced hours 10 am until 4 pm. The lighthouse tours end September 7th.

Thank you New Brunswick and the Atlantic Bubble. Yesterday, August 2, we broke a record of the number of people visiting in one day since we have been recording the daily visitor numbers in the summer. The beautiful weather and the Bluenose II sail past also helped.

Toonie Tuesdays are back. Still a couple of hours to take advantage of the offer and tour the Swallow Tail lighthouse. Not enough time for a tour, we also accept donations to help us maintain the property. Haven't been in this year, we have new displays to enjoy.

Happy 160th Swallow Tail. Keeper Jonathon Kent lit the lamps today at sunset for the first time (July 7th, 1860). The light had 10 Catoptric lamps/reflectors (curved mirrored lens) which were 12 inches in diameter and 10 inches deep, the burners were mammouth type burners using porpoise or seal oil as a fuel (assuming there were also 10 burners). There are no photographs of Jonathon Kent nor his son John Kent (the next keeper) that have been found but there is a photo of William Kent, Jonathon and Barbara's son who became a sea captain and no doubt helped his father tend the light when he lived at home.

Lighthouse tours will begin July 1 from 10 am to 5:30 pm. Gift shop will also be open. Please have a mask or face covering with you because there are areas where physically distancing can be a challenge, not only in buildings but also on the footbridge, trail and boardwalk. Use when needed and stay safe. Look forward to many visitors. Swallow Tail's 160th anniversary is July 7th.

We had planned to celebrate Swallow Tail’s 160th anniversary with a large event but, of course, that will not happen now. Instead we are concentrating on painting the lighthouse this year to make it shine. To raise money to cover the costs, we are offering these locally made sea star dish clothes for sale. Each pair is numbered and cost $16.00/pair. If you purchase more than one pair, the subsequent pairs are $12.50 each. Indicate which number you want. Payment can be made by etransfer. Pick up will be arranged after payment.
