We routinely have a station with our younger groups (Gr. 2s and 3s) that focus on the classic "give and go" just to get players use to cutting to the hoop. This allows us to really focus on improving the initial pass, the cut and lastly the shot. This was taken in Week 2 (good starting point but then we need to get it to game speed without a defender and then add a defender).
Getting down the court and advancing the ball for a quick transition basket is always a focus and this highlight demonstrates that.
It was weird not having basketball yesterday but here are a couple highlights. Would have loved to show a comparison of before and after. These are some of our youngest. The dribbling is coming along!
One of our stations was "ultimate" last night. It helps to teach players to move without the ball, the importance of cutting and pivoting. This was our 1st time playing it. As a variation, you can allow a dribble.
From our Thursday group (we rotate players around to stations that focus on different skills). This week, we looked at a 3 part post series with part 1 being catching the ball in the post, reverse pivot to shot. This was their 1st go at it. Part 2 is adding a drop step.
A couple highlights from last night (you don't hear it, but I'm pretty sure he called "bank" ;).....
