Time for a little music history for December! George Frederic Handel composed the "Messiah" from start to finish in only 24 days! It actually came to pass by his librettist (lyrics writer for lack of a better explanation!) wanting to have Scripture set to music by Handel, to which Handel agreed and industriously set to work. He said of his composition that the music flowed out of him and he could hardly stop his pen to rest! Throughout, he uses a musical technique calle...d "tone painting" where the music imitates or describes the words being sung- and when you listen, you can see how masterfully this is done! This work was originally meant for Easter, but has become one of the hallmark performances each year all over the world at Christmastime! My favourite recording is by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir. And I dreadfully miss singing in it myself this year in our community! #pianolessons #vanderhoof #swansmusicstudio
It's fun to create a magical space for the students to play piano or sing- I always have a lights- out lesson (with parent or sibling there, of course!) with just the Christmas lights on- they love it. If it must be dark, we will celebrate the darkness! #pianolessons #vanderhoof #swansmusicstudio
Make time for music each day- sing, dance, play it, enjoy it! It's part of what makes us human, and helps to relax, refresh and reset, too! Listening can be passive (it's on in the background) or active (you are singing or moving or drawing what you hear- that sort of thing). Either is good, but active listening with your child is best, to develop their rhythm and sense of patterns as they grow and learn to speak and read. So get out the tunes and have some fun togeth...er! #pianolessons #swansmusicstudio #suzukipiano #musikgarten
THANK YOU @michellelynnepianist!!! So very happy we could spend the day with you, playing piano and learning together- but apart!! You are the best! "It was a pleasure to work with Swan's students in a masterclass setting. They were all extremely adaptive, well prepared and open to new ideas. Everything was so well organized and it was so lovely to hear their varied and interesting repertoire. Well done Swan and students!" ...
We had a wonderful time with Michelle Lynne, a pianist from the Netherlands (but originally from Grands Prairie) who gave us tips and learning opportunities via Zoom on Saturday! She complimented me several times on how well the students played and how impressed she was such a small town had so many lovely students! So proud of those that took part!
