The Lost Women of Science Initiative is a non-profit educational organization with the overarching goal of inspiring girls and young women -- especially those from communities chronically underrepresented in the STEM professions -- to embark on careers in STEM. The Initiative’s flagship is its Lost Women of Science podcast, producing four multi-episode seasons per year. As a full, mission-driven organization, the Lost Women of Science Initiative plans to digitize and archive our research efforts and make all primary source material available to students, educators, and historians of science. #WomenOfSTEM #STEM https://open.spotify.com/show/2TeYeCLqQbVyuyIQ6kYC7V

SWCC #MemberHighlight Safin Bayes is an engineering Research Assistant at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON and has been an SWCC member since January 2022. Get to know Safin with these Q&As.... What does your typical day look like? On a typical weekday morning, I catch the bus for a 5-minute ride to the campus. I start working on my research projects from 9 AM. I spent most of the day figuring things out by reading papers and codes. Then I do some programming myself to implement my ideas. On some days I meet with my supervisor discussing progress and/or new ideas. Meetings could be anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours! Some other days I also have a class. Usually I leave campus at 6 PM and go the gym with my friends. On a rest day, I do grocery or simply lie around. What are your goals? As a new science writer/blogger, I wanted to join a community where I could learn about various aspects of science communication, volunteer in different SWCC activities, and expose myself, my profile, and my blog for better reach and feedback. What's a fun fact people may not know about you? Not many know that I learned to swim from YouTube. Before jumping into the pool, I would make a mental list about the drills I would perform against the edge. I would remember the lessons I watched prior to the session and if I don't recall certain actions, I would simply do them the wrong way and go back home to remember for the next session. Took me while to get over the fear of drowning, but somehow I did it.
