The Omaha Stockyard's, closed in 1999, shortly before being bulldozed. It's amazing to think that in 1955 on average 43,000 head of livestock (beef, pork, mutto...n) passed through here every day and by 1957 the Stockyards, which included the stockyard company, an astounding 19 different meatpacking companies, 40 commission firms, a special railroad just for livestock and other companies employed half of Omaha's workforce. https://youtu.be/zKqpXT7Wct8 For all of my ranching friends who splice a lot of fences, the hammer trick is way faster than fence stretchers and a much more mob...ile way to fix fence. I'm sure some of you know how to do this already so I hope it can help someone! The hole in the hammer is for running the wire through which saves time, is easy, and helps conserve a little wire. This trick will work with any old claw hammer as long as it has a bell on the end of it, giving the wire a place to seat while twisting. Good luck! (Excuse how grungy I am in the video, I had been building steel braces before that, we need to have Mike Rowe come work with us apparently)

On Oct 3rd, 1906, it took a pack train of 31 of E.J. Branford's horses to carry a 1 and 1/8" cable six miles up the steep mountain trail to the Silver Dollar Mi...ne (SE of Revelstoke near Trout Lake). This cable was 3,600 feet in length and weighed in at 7,600 pounds. It was one solid and continuous length while in transit, and can be easily seen connecting from horse to horse in this highly detailed image. (photo by E.T. Tucker)

When you have different folks needing access to one piece of property. Drill enough holes into a rotating plate that equal the number of outfits needing access.... Each outfit installs their own lock into a hole. Take your lock out of it's hole on the rotating plate, making room for the rod to slide up through the hole and out of the gate, allowing it to swing open. Genius! See more
