Strive for progress not perfection This has been our mantra this week as we prepare to launch our new site. We recently switched website platforms and it h...as been challenging to say the least. There are so many in’s and out’s to learn and figure out. But like with anything new there is a learning curve and through the somewhat frustrating trial and error we are slowly but surely getting a hang of it. Is it perfect? No. Not even close! But it’s progress and it’s getting us one step closer to our goal. So thank you for your patience and giving us the time to pivot and adapt our way of doing business to this ever changing world. We are so close to launching our online store and even though it’s not perfect we’re proud of what we have accomplished and we’re excited to share our progress with you all

Thrift tips: I find the clothing I get the most compliments on are the ones that I’ve thrifted. There is nothing quite like the thrill of a sweet thrift find ... Fun fact: Our shop is FULL of sweet thrift finds! We take the time to select only quality clothing that is clean, stylish and unique! There are so many gems to be discovered at sweet lemons ! I consider myself somewhat of a professional thrifter. (Yah that’s a thing) I like to think I’ve master the art of thrifting if you will. (hence my career ) Not only is it an affordable option it’s also a sustainable choice and helps the environment. Who doesn’t want to save money and save the earth? Here are my tips & tricks for successful thrifting. Tip #1: Give yourself ample time to shop Thrift shopping isn’t normally an in and out type of experience. You need time to go through the racks. It’s not like any regular store , every single item is unique and different. There’s so much to see so make sure you allow yourself the time to go through it all! Tip #2: Be open minded Whenever I’m thrift shopping I go in with an open mind. Sometimes I find the perfect piece but it’s a size to big or maybe it’s the right dress but just happens to be bit to long for me. If it’s the style I’m looking for or a piece I just can’t live without I will get them altered. I often bring my thrift finds to my seamstress and get her to alter them to fit my body. Not only is it often worth the price, I’m also giving this special piece of clothing a 2nd chance at life. It’s okay to spend a little money to make that special gem you found yours! Tip #3: Make thrift stores a regular part of your shopping routine Every time I need something new I always make it point to check out second hand shops before I go to the big box stores or the mall. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you have to exclusively shop second hand or go without something because you can’t find it used. I’m simply saying make a conscious effort to try and find it second hand first! Tip #4. Check back regularly Second hand stores are constantly getting new product! That’s part of their charm. Just because you didn’t find what you were looking for this time keep checking back you never know what treasures are waiting to be found! These are my top tips for successful thrift shopping, Start visiting your local thrift stores more often and remember try to shift your shopping habits and try second hand first

It was laundry day at our house, It really is never ending isn’t it? but did you know... One of the easiest ways to extend the life of your clothing is to NO...T over wash them! Yes that’s right, I’m telling you to do LESS laundry !! Plain and simple, clothes last longer when they aren’t being over-washed. For example: Sweaters worn over a t-shirt don’t need to be washed after every single wear. The same goes for jeans, skirts and dresses! Unless the garment is actually dirty (which I know happens more often then not with kids) they can generally be worn around three times before needing to be cleaned. Tip #2: Zip & Button up. To avoid damage when washing zip up your sweaters and jeans and do up the buttons & snaps on clothing before tossing them in the laundry machine. By doing this, you’re reducing the chance that your clothes will get caught or tangled and damaged. Tip # 3 - Don’t over stuff! Now you definitely don’t want to wash just a few items because it’s a waste of energy and water, but you don’t want to put too many clothes in your laundry machine either. If the laundry machine is stuffed too tight, it won’t wash your clothes properly. Also, the clothes could rub up against each other which can result in damaged and faded clothing. Make sure your washing clothes in cold water to prevent fading, shrinking and stains from setting in. And bonus: It’s also more eco-friendly to wash in cold water because it takes less energy! Woo hoo !! And lastly, wash your clothes inside out: To reduce fading and keep prints from cracking, turn your clothes inside out before tossing them in the laundry. Although i agree, it’s annoying having to turn them back out after they’re dried, it will help clothes with text or designs last longer!

Shift to thrift. Even small changes like shopping second hand can make a difference! When you shop second hand your helping give those items a second chance at ...life. Did you know... extending the life cycle of clothing by even just 9 months would reduce carbon, waste and water footprints by around 25-30% each. 95% of textiles found in landfills could be recycled, reused or repurposed. Buying second hand is a great way to help reduce emissions and help the environment. Also by choosing to donate or sell your unwanted/ outgrown clothing (either your self or to a store like ours) helps keep perfectly wearable clothing out of our landfills and helps with the slow fashion movement! Small changes = big impact. See more
