Swinging is helpful for so many reasons
Look at the differences between a typical preschool childs hand (left) and a typical 7 year old hand (right). Want to know why a preschool aged child isnt a...ble to write yet? This is why! Their hands are still developing and are not fully formed. So what should they be doing to support this? PLAY!! Playdough, colouring, cutting, gluing, playing outside, digging in dirt, sensory play, dress up play, science experiments, beading, puzzles, throwing balls, etc. . All of these things help their hands develop. When they are physically ready to write, they will! No need to rush them, they will show you when they are ready. via @Raisingherbarefoot
Goodmorning! We have started the process of going through our wait list and calling families for spots. If youve been on our wait list and havent received a ...call please message us or call the centre during operating hours. We have spaces in September for ages 3+ so if your needing care please inquire within! Have a great sunny weekend!
As we have been open for a month now, we wanted to give you a run through of what our average day looks like. Children arrive between the hours of 8 to 10, all parents must complete a health check list at the door and a staff member will take the temperature of each child. The child will wash their hands and proceed outside to play. Staff have set out several centers for children to engage in during their day. In the morning quiet activities such as a reading center, colouri...ng, and table top activities are put out. These promote fine motor, language, and imaginative play. The children are also free to play with our climbers which work their gross motor skills. Building and problem solving skills are challenged with the waffle blocks, and other building materials we put out. This also provides opportunities for team building and communication. Water play is brought our intermittently throughout the day. The play kitchen in the back is fitted with a sink, which is filled in the morning. This brings the children together to enrich creativity and team building. In the afternoon we provide free water play, which the children use buckets and our wooden waterfall to keep cool. Hand washing is prompted throughout the day. Changing activities or rubbing their face, the staff ask all children to wash their hands for approximately 30 seconds to insure all germs are killed. We have provided a song to help teach children how long they need to spend washing their hands. Water bottles are provided and kept in distance to other childrens belongings. They are refilled through the day to provide hydration to the children, and staff request water breaks through the day. The children are challenged each day. They work together, problem solve, and find new ways to play, all while keeping in guidance to new Covid 19 regulations.
"Pretend play typically develops naturally around 18 months. At first, a Little Ones pretend-play will look like common activitieslike talking on the phone. ... At 2 years, imaginative play shows signs of symbolic thinking. This means an object is used to reflect something else. For instance, a remote control can be used as a phone. Initially, the pretend object will be similar to what its pretending to be. Two-year-olds also play dolls and care for them as if theyre real. So theyll feed a doll or change a diaper. Two-year-old also play-act themselves by pretending to be asleep, or pretending to clean the kitchen, or pretending to be a doctor. Pretend-play becomes more sophisticated between ages 2 and 3. An object will no longer need to resemble what its pretending to beyour childs imagination takes care of the gap. Next level make-believe play comes around 3 years with tea parties and super-hero battles. By age 4 years, your child will add storylines to their play-acting. Everything will be more detailed and elaborate." See more

Good afternoon Families, Following yesterdays declare of Public Health Emergency I am faced with making the decision whether to remain open or shut our doors. Ive allowed all my staff to remain at home moving forward with the exception of Chelsea as she has volunteered to work today with me. As early childhood educators we are supposed to be children and families advocates and in this time of crisis it is a hard call to make but I feel that in the best interest of everyone...s health and safety as of 4pm today Sweetpeas will be closed. We will continue to keep everyone posted when we will reopen. I appreciate everyone understanding and patience on this as we are all in it together. This decision hasnt been taken lightly by any means. Sincerely Alicia
Good afternoon Parents, With the increasing amount of cases of Covid-19 spreading and the order of social distancing by the provincial government, we are restricting our hours to 8-4pm moving forward as of March 18, 2020. I have allowed my staff to remain home where they can feel safe at their own discretion . Myself and Chelsea will be here to look after any children that do require care. Because of the staff restriction there will be a first come first serve basis of a max...imum 16 children. Please keep in mind with daily updates from out provincial and federal government this may change as the days go on, and we may be required to close. Making other care options for your child during this time is important as we do not know when or if we may close. Keeping your child home if possible is the best way to minimize spread of any virus and will keep us all safe. Thank you.
This is awesome!! Thankyou scholastic
We all need to do our part to help the spread of germs..here are a few good tips that we ask parents to do.
"Reframing" with children is about helping them shift their focus from what they think they cant do, to what they can do. Adults can help them see a situation ...from different perspectives, and to focus on the less negative outcomes or conclusions. A little while ago I was gifted this dollhouse, my grandpa had built this and I remember as a child peeking inside and looking at all the furniture and letting my imagination run wild. My grandma gave this to me and I wanted a way to be able to give the children in our care the same experience I had as a child. We bought a enclosed old cooler and now I cant wait to create all sorts of scenes for the children to come and explore with their eyes and imagination.
