Last nights rain/ice can potentially snap tree branches and trunks. These Parkland Pillar Birch still had quite a few leaves on them, making them extremely heavy with ice! If you notice your trees bending quite a bit, you can give them a shake and run you hand along the branches to knock the ice off.
Did you plant trees this year and stake them?? Now is a great time to remove the stakes. The trees should have rooted in by now and the stakes are safe to remove. The additional movement of the tree trunk in the wind also encourages more root growth!
Is it too late to plant trees and shrubs? Not at all! Fall is a great time to plant trees and shrubs. Since the weather tends to be cooler, the above ground portion of the tree is under far less stress than it is in warmer seasons. The ground is still relatively warm so the tree can focus its energy on root production. We still have many 3 ft Okanese Poplar and 6 ft Parkland Pillar Birch available. As well, we still have trucks with shipments coming in through October. Message us if you want to get ahead of the crazy spring rush!
We're putting together one last order for trees this year. Please message us by noon tomorrow to get in on our next shipment delivering this Friday. Pickup time and dates for clients are always flexible. 4-5' poplars for $20 great for shelterbelts. 6' Parkland Pillar Birch for $70 to line a fence or driveway. Fall is a great time to plant trees! The cooler weather minimizes transplant shock, and they're already in the ground to take advantage of all the spring moisture.
