Welcoming our new Deputy Head of Mission Regula Kurzbein A warm welcome to Ms. Regula Kurzbein, our new Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Switzerland in ...Ottawa. Regula and her family are delighted to be here and to connect with you! for the moment at least virtually. Regula Kurzbein has formally taken up her duties as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Switzerland in Canada in August 2020. As a Swiss diplomat she was first posted to the Embassy of Switzerland in Yangon/Myanmar, then to the political directorate of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in Bern where she worked in the field of international finance and tax policy. Regula holds a Ph.D. in law, taught law students at the University of Bern and worked as a lawyer in the private and public sector before joining the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. She is originally from the canton of Thurgau.

Francine Simonin, grande dame de la peinture, s’est éteinte à Montréal, le 9 octobre 2020, à l’âge de 84 ans. Née en 1936 à Lausanne, Francine Simonin est vaudo...ise de naissance et canadienne d’adoption. Elle s’installe à Montréal au début des années 70 et enseigne les arts plastiques à l’Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières jusqu’en 1994. Elle fréquente alors les Jean-Paul Riopelle, Serge Lemoyne, Pierre Ayot et autres René Derouin. Durant sa carrière, elle a présenté plus de 200 expositions solos en Suisse, en France, en Espagne, aux États-Unis et au Canada. Swiss and Canadian Foreign ministers meet in Bern Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis met with Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs François-Philippe Champagne fo...r an official working visit that took place against the backdrop of a shared intention on the part of Switzerland and Canada to intensify their bilateral relations. The two foreign ministers spoke of their countries' strong relations and discussed many other topical international issues such as the crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the situation in Lebanon. Ignazio Cassis and his counterpart praised the strong relations between Switzerland and Canada. The COVID-19 crisis was a major topic of discussion. The two ministers summarised the situation with regard to the pandemic in their respective countries. They also touched on the current state of progress towards a vaccine and on ensuring supplies of such a vaccine. Both Switzerland and Canada hope to be able to rely on cooperation in international bodies in this regard. As the two countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, the two ministers underlined the shared interests and values, including federalism and multilingualism. Canada is Switzerland's second-largest economic partner in the Americas. Last year, Switzerland exported goods worth CHF 4.4 billion to Canada
