Team Kellen is proud to host these events to show these families they are not alone during the fight! We had so much love and community support during our journey and that support continues as we help others in need. On Wednesday December 2nd at 7pm Team Kellen and players from the Cape Breton High School Hockey League will have a fundraiser game at The Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre. Admission will be by ticket sales $10 per person and there will be 50/50 tickets also available with all funds being donated to this years cancer family. If you are unable to attend the event but would like to donate etransfer is available: [email protected] ( please make security answer kellen) We are also working on obtaining a live feed for the game so people can watch and donate from home. This year our fundraising efforts will go to Darren Ellsworth. Darren is a proud supporter of Team Kellen, a former teammate and great lifelong friend of Kellen's dad, Sheldon Surette. On September 3, 2020, Darren was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage III testicular cancer with metastasis to his lungs, lymph nodes and large areas of tumor thrombosis (IVC and Renal Vein Thrombosis) Darren and his wife, Dawn Strong, have 3 children, Markus, Harley, and Jacob. He is an avid sports enthusiast, especially hockey, with his favorite team being the Vancouver Canucks. Please come and enjoy a fast paced, fun filled hockey game to not only help Darren and his family...but to honour our boy Kellen who lost his battle 7 years ago. August 18, 2020 RE: Updated Regulations for Spectators at Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre Dear Valued Patrons,... The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caused our facility to closely monitor our daily operations, and remain flexible to the ever-changing provincial and community regulations. As of August 10, 2020, we have both ice surfaces operating at the Membertou Sport & Wellness Centre, however due to many spectators not following our facilitys COVID-19 distancing rules, and our responsibility to adhere to public health protocols, we are updating our operations as of Monday August 24, 2020. Beginning on Monday August 24, 2020, parents, guardians and spectators of any kind are not permitted to watch practices, camps, or play. An exception to this rule is parents/guardians of the U7-11 leagues and younger (IP, Novice and Atom). One parent or guardians will be permitted to take their player into the facility, assist them with necessary equipment (skate tying, securing helmets, etc.), and then will be kindly asked to respect the rules and leave their child to go on the ice, and return to pick them up in the parking lot following their ice time. We understand this may cause some initial getting used to on the part of players and the parents/guardians. However, to adhere to the necessary regulations, its a step we must take to ensure the safety of our community. Its a step we must also take to ensure our facility can remain open during these uncertain times. This rule in no way impacts ice times all practices and play will continue as scheduled. We thank those spectators who did respect the rules from the outset, and hope you can understand our responsibility to ensure health and safety for all. If or when the provincial regulations loosen, we will be reassessing our no spectators policy and will provide an update to our patrons at that time. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation on this matter. Welalioq, Paul Carroll, General Manager, Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre Richard Paul, Chief Operating Officer, Membertou Development Corporation
Hi all; We have noticed over the last couple weeks we have noticed the following rules not being followed: 1) Social Distancing of 6 feet within all public spaces (This has been a major concern) 2) One parent and one player allowed in the building (no siblings). 3) After practice parents must exit the building and wait for there player outside ... 4) Some players not coming to rink dressed As you can appreciate we are happy to be open and providing the opportunity for people to get on the ice and we want to continue to do that. These rules are part of our reopen plan and need to be followed by all users. Failure to follow the rules may result in no parents being allowed to watch practice and only allowed in they building to drop there player off. Thanks Paul Paul Carroll- General Manger Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre 902-574-2353
We will be doing another camp over the next bunch of weeks. In order to secure the ice times I will need to make sure the is enough interest to do so. I have spoke to some parents already who want their players signed up.....If I could get names from anyone interested sooner than later that would be great. I was thinking 10-12 ice times between August 17th and the first few weeks in September. Reply here or email thanks. Sheldon [email protected]

UPDATE FROM MEMBERTOU SPORT AND WELLNESS CENTRE Hi All; At this point we are in the planning stages to try and reopen on Monday, July 6th; as part of stage one of our plan. In stage one the following guidelines will be in place:... 1) No dressing rooms will be used, players must come to arena partially dressed and will put remainder of gear on in empty arena floor respecting social distancing (6 feet). Chairs and rubber mats will be available to ensure distancing. Only one ice pad will be open in stage one. 2) Players are to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before ice time and depart 10 minutes after ice time. This is to limit numbers in the facility and respect social distancing rules. The main entrance will be the only point of entry. One parent/guardian can accompany the player in the facility but must follow social distancing protocols at all times. 3) No game play or battle drills on the ice. All rentals must be skill development based and social distancing rules must be followed on ice. 4) The Max number as of today is 10 people on the ice at one time, I do expect this number to increase but unsure as to when. 5) The facility will only be open Monday-Friday 7am-8pm and closed weekends as part of phase one. When we move to phase two of the plan will depend on how things are going and with the direction from the Department of Health, no timeline at this point. 6) The walking track will be closed and no public skating in phase one either. So all that being said there will not be any hockey games or recreational hockey as part of phase one. This follows the current guidelines in place to reduce close contact and maintain social distancing protocols. The primary focus is the safety of our staff and patrons, please not following the rules will be denied access to the facility. Thank you Paul Carroll- General Manger Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre

Sydney Academy High School and the Sydney Academy Wildcats Hockey Club would like to congratulate defenseman Belle Jacobs on signing her letter of intent to continue her athletic career with the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers Womens Hockey Club in the Atlantic University Sport Conference. Belle has worked extremely hard both on the Ice, being the first female player with the Boys Division 1 SA Wildcats Hockey Club, and off the ice as well to achieve this goal. Most importantly she has excelled in the classroom while maximizing her development as an athlete. We want to thank you for representing Sydney Academy High School and wish you the best of luck next season with the UPEI Panthers!
Just wanted to shout out to any of the SA kids who view this page..... hockey players and any other students. Hope everyone is doing ok and trying their best to follow the rules and stay healthy and help keep everyone else in the community safe and healthy by practicing stay at home and minimal contact with others. It is so so important to follow these social distancing rules. I know everyone has recently been contacted by the school and it is important that you all rep...ly on google classroom to stay connected. As this pandemic goes on the break has become longer than any of us hoped or expected. Saying that you may be introduced to new ways of schooling through distance education. IF that does happen try not to panic or worry too much about how to get things done. If anyone out there needs help with anything just reach out, we have a great staff and Administration who are willing to help any way we can. Take care of each other, send messages, check on people you havent heard from in a while. Its always nice to hear a hello from a friend! See more
Just shooting a message out for the kids letting you guys know Im a message away if theres anything I can help with let me know. Its a scary crazy time right now and as teenagers its a lot harder to comprehend the severity of whats going on. Things will be touch and go for a few more weeks and it seems like an eternity but so important to listen and follow the directions we are given by the government. Stay safe, stay home if you can and limit the number of people you interact with to as few as possible. Coach Sheldon
Obviously our kids health and safety is the number 1 priority!! That being said the tentative plan is to move our Big K spring hockey back a few weeks. We want to make sure its safe for everyone when we decide to move forward. I was talking to Paul Carroll at the rink today and he is in the process of rescheduling all bookings today. Once a few weeks pass we will know if and when it will be safe to go ahead with it. We will definitely have the games when it is safe to do so.... Right now they plan to reassess around April 6th. Hopefully the new schedule will work for everyone who signed up. If anyone decides they do not want to participate just send me an email message and we can make the necessary adjustments. Thanks everyone be safe and listen to the experts. Stay home as much as possible the next 14 days and lets see where that puts us! Thanks Sheldon [email protected]
We are going to reschedule our Team Kellen High School Hockey Fundraiser "Kids Fight Cancer" to a later date. I will post well in advance to give everyone time to be comfortable and safe and we will follow the advice of our leaders on the go ahead date. Thanks
REGISTRATION IS FULL FOR SPRING HOCKEY. ANYONE THAT SIGNS UP NOW WILL BE PUT ON A WAITING LIST. AS WE GET CLOSER TO THE START WE WILL NEED TO COLLECT FEES OR THE SPOTS WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE READY TO PAY.
