We wish to share this with everyone. The Covid-19 pandemic has certainly created a new world with many challenges. Veterinary practices were deemed essential once the state of emergency was declared in March and we have been operating during the lock down, with reduced staff, hours and also ensuring necessary protocols are in place to operate during such a pandemic The staff are the backbone of a veterinary practice. Our staff have worked under unprecedented circumstances an...d we are extremely proud of them. But during that time, on more than one occasion, they were subject to verbal abuse and derogatory language from some members of the public due to long wait times, increased phone call volume, and the inability to provide certain services due to reduced staff available. As of late, as the economy begins to reopen, and we attempt to resume normal operations, such disrespectful behavior towards our staff still occurs. When someone treats a veterinary team member in such a way, they neglect to remember they are speaking to a receptionist who is trying to accomodate all client appointments, purchases and large phone call volume. Or a veterinary technician who was assisting in a pets emergency surgery at 1am and then back on duty at 8am. A Veterinarian who has been on call 24 hours a day for 7 days straight, handling Emergencies after hours and then seeing appointments throughout the day. Veterinary clinics are working as hard as they can to accommodate the demand for veterinary care in our area. But the need for respect and understanding cannot be ignored and we will not allow our staff to be treated poorly or be verbally abused by some members of the public. Covid-19 is not gone. We all still must work together to stop the spread, and one day be able to put this pandemic behind us. So we please ask that you bear with us as we strive to provide for your fur babies needs as our team members also need to rest and recharge after a difficult time. And we also ask that you do so, for ALL our Veterinary colleagues in the CBRM, Nova Scotia and beyond. Thank you so very much!

Good afternoon! We shared this post back in July but today several instances occurred where it once again must be visited. Any form verbal abuse, threats or disrespect to our team members will not be tolerated and will result in the refusal of all and any future services.... We understand these are exhausting times but respect is essential and the safety of our staff and their ability to care for all our patients is of the utmost importance. Thank you! ****** We wish to share this with everyone. The Covid-19 pandemic has certainly created a new world with many challenges. ****UPDATE----SUNDAY MARCH 22, 2020 As you are aware, Nova Scotia is now in a state of Emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We have been informed that under such, Veterinarians are not classified as an essential service here in Nova Scotia. However, our governing body, the Nova Scotia Veterinary Medical Association (NSVMA) has petitioned the Nova Scotia Government to extend the essential services designation to the Veterinary profession. As of yet, no decision has been m...ade. In the interim, the NSVMA has directed veterinary hospitals to continue to operate to the best of their ability, with only 5 team members on hand at a given time, including the attending veterinarian. We also will have to triage medical cases and time sensitive treatments on a case-by-case basis. As such, please be aware that you will experience longer wait times and delays. We ask that you please bear with us during these difficult times. We will continue to keep you all updated as things progress.

Sydney Animal Hospital 24.12.2019

SATURDAY MARCH 21ST- COVID 19 UPDATE Good morning. Please be advised, that as of MONDAY MARCH 23rd, we will be reducing our hospital hours to Monday to Friday 8-5pm. We will be CLOSED on Saturdays. All our previously mentioned precautions and policies during this time are still in effect.... We are however, suspending all elective procedures. These include Castrations, Spays, Dental Cleanings/Dental Extractions, Vaccinations, and Nail Trims. We are essentially attempting to triage veterinary cases. Cases not mentioned above, will be viewed on a case by case basis. With elective procedures, we will be keeping a waiting list of patients requesting those services so we can provide them when we are able to in the future. Again, we are putting these precautions in place to endeavor to provide veterinary services for as long as we can in these uncertain times. We understand that tensions are running high and there is so much uncertainty. But we ask that we all try to be understanding and courteous of ALL businesses and services that are trying to still operate at this time. Please be kind to each other. And thank you all for your kind words. It means a great deal to us all. As always, we will keep you updated as things develop. Be well.

Sydney Animal Hospital 14.12.2019

***Closing at Early*** Currently we have a telephone and internet outage. We are closing early. But plan on regular hours tomorrow. Thank you and stay safe.

Sydney Animal Hospital 07.12.2019

Covid-19 update: Friday March 20th As we continue to navigate the current situation with the coronavirus, we have made the following new procedures as of this morning, 1) To limit traffic in the reception area and beyond, clients cannot be present in the examination rooms during their pets appointments. Owners can wait in reception or in their vehicles, and then staff or veterinarian will come to you to discuss your pets exam.... 2) The only exception to the above, is that 1 owner can be present in the examination room when their pet is here for euthanasia. 3) As we posted yesterday, we will still bring food and medications out to you in our parking lot and you can pre-pay via telephone or by wireless debit terminal. We are still accepting Cash payments as well. Please call us in advance and upon your arrival. 4) If you feel you are sick or have been near someone who is, we request you send in another family member or individual who is not sick and has not been in contact with one whom is, as a designated as an authorized agent to speak on your behalf and a phone number contact so we can also reach you. EFFECTIVE SATURDAY MARCH 21st. WE WILL BE UNABLE TO ALLOW THE PUBLIC INTO OUR BUILDING. We will have our front doors locked but we will be open for business. All the above-mentioned steps for the pick-up of food, medications, payment, etc , will still be in place as well as the 1-owner present policy when a pet is being euthanized. As for regularly booked appointment, one of our staff members will come to take your pet inside our hospital, as well as collecting some pet history from you. Clients can wait in their vehicle during the visit and once the appointment is complete, we will contact you with the examination findings. We understand these are very stressful times but please know we are implementing these precautions for your safety, as well as for the safety of your pet and our staff. We hope these precautionary steps will allow us to continue providing services for you as long as possible as the Covid-19 situation continues to evolve. Thank you all for your continued support. It truly means a great deal to us all here at Sydney Animal Hospital.

Sydney Animal Hospital 06.11.2019

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, Sydney Animal Hospital has been closely monitoring the situation and are following the latest guidelines from Health Canada and World Health Organization along with other agencies. We are taking all the necessary steps to keep our clients, their pets and our entire staff in a safe and healthy environment. In addition to our standard procedures, we have implemented changes to increase the frequency in cleaning and disinfecting all... the high traffic areas of our clinic, including reception, our waiting area and restroom. We are using alcohol-based cleaners and sanitizers as a disinfectant. These have a strong smell and may be difficult for our clients whom suffer from scent sensitivity. As washing hands both frequently and thoroughly is vital, sanitizing soap is available at all our basins, including each exam room for clients to use as well. Also having hand sanitizer readily available for our clients, located at the main doors and at each exam room door. We understand the necessities in having a healthy pet and the concerns of the transmission of this virus. If you require additional medications and food for your pets , please give us a call. We will review your case and see what options we have available to help you. We will continue to monitor the situation and pass along all information to you. We are OPEN for regular business. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
