Important Announcement Regarding the 2020 Ball Season

COVID-19 / 2020 Ball Season Update - March 31, 2020 We hope that this finds you all well, in good health, caring for and supporting one another during a very trying time. We want to provide you a brief update on the current situation as it relates to Baseball and Softball for the 2020 season. For the health and safety of everyone concerned during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Baseball Alberta has advised that all sanctioned baseball activities are suspended until at least April 30, ...2020. Softball Alberta has suspended all activities at this time as well. We hope to have more information after the 30th. While things are uncertain and we know you all have questions, we appreciate your patience. We will not be issuing refunds for ball registrations at this moment. We continue planning for the future and await the direction of the appropriate governing bodies. Like you, we are hoping for a season of any length. We have made the decision to cancel the Softball Ice-Breaker tournament scheduled for May long weekend. In the event that upcoming decisions conclude and there will NOT be a season, refunds will be processed at that time. Spring is around the corner, so we encourage you to find ways you can get outside and practice some of those Ball Skills while still maintaining social distancing. We ask that you please keep off the ball diamonds as the snow melts, the town will be taking steps to ready the diamonds for future use. Sylvan Lake Minor Ball Association response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) _____________________________________________________________________________________ Amid ongoing concerns about COVID-19, we wanted to reach out and explain how we at Sylvan Lake Minor Ball are responding. Following the real-time advice of Alberta Health Services, as well as the direction of Baseball and Softball Alberta we have come to the decision to cancel all upcoming tryouts and evaluations. The Base...ball umpire clinics have also been cancelled at this time. We want to ensure you that now and always the health and safety of our teams, coaches, and communities is the top priority to us. We will be monitoring the situation closely, and are hopeful that we will be able to continue with evaluations at a later date. We realize this will cause a delay in the formation of teams, and hope that this can resume in the very near future. This is an unprecedented, and quickly changing situation that we all find ourselves in. However, it is far too early to make any decisions on how, or if this will impact the 2020 playing season. Please be patient and do your part to help stop the spread of the virus. In the mean time we will plan ahead for what we can, and prepare to resume once the current situation changes. In times like these we all offer our hearts to all those affected worldwide by the outbreak, and hope to strengthen our communities as we navigate together as a society through this challenge. This is a reminder that tryouts for the 2020 Sylvan Lake Mariners 'AA' baseball teams start this weekend at The Dome in Red Deer (334 Energy Way, Red Deer County). The Dome is located just east of Harley Davidson and Holiday Inn on Gasoline Alley. If you google map on your phone, it's pretty easy to find. Players should arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled start time to change footwear, check in with the coach, and get numbered for evaluation. Players are require to bri...ng clean indoor running shoes, baseball glove, water, athletic support (jock or jill), batting helmet, bat and batting gloves (both are optional). Team bats are available to borrow. Catchers are welcome to bring their own catching equipment, but we will also have team bags with catchers equipment to borrow. If any players are looking to take some swings prior to tryouts, the Nexsource Centre in Sylvan Lake has 4 batting nets to hit into in the curling rink, as well as a small area to throw a ball/field a ball etc. It's only around $5.00 for an hour with tee's and balls included. Monday to Thursday it's open 9am to 8pm and Friday to Sunday from 9am to 6pm. SLMBA would like to remind you that Girls Competitive try outs start this Saturday, March 7th @ Fox Run Gym Sylvan Lake. The dates and times for the age group are below. Note there has been a time change for all second try outs at steffie gym. All players wanting to attend tryouts must be registered with SLMBA before tryouts begin. ... We will be sending out more emails with group listings but believe alphabetical order is best for second try out. Please make sure you are there a bit early so you can be checked in and ready as we want to stay on time during the day with all age groups. Please ensure you have helmet, glove, indoor shoes, bat - if needed and water bottle. All girls will rotate through station work and be evaluated on their skills at each station. There is 2 try outs minimum for each age group. Pitchers and catchers will work and be evaluated in the last approximately 25 minutes of each time slot. Station helpers will be used to catch for pitchers unless we need extra parent help. We will have some catchers gear available for use, but recommend you bring your own if that is what works best for you. We will use station helpers only for all drills. Parents will be asked to watch from bleachers or bench off to the side. This will again be posted to the SLMBA website. Please feel free to pass this email on to other players. The lead instructor will be Andie Marchand and 3 other instructors will be assisting her in this program consisting of pitching, catching, hitting and fielding drills. All instructors have played competitive softball and are dedicated to help develop players softball skills.
