Today is #bellletstalkday This is a very important initiative to me. These programs help create the awareness around the impact of mental illness, normalize the conversations around it, and why we need to develop the resources to manage it effectively. This is not something that should be done one day a year, but on a continual basis. With the global pandemic creating isolation from one another, we need to do all we can to preserve our mental wellness. Please join me in advoc...ating for #mentalhealthawareness - Here are links to resources that can be of help: Candian Suicide Prevention Service 24/7/365 No: 833-456-4566 SMS: Text START to 741741 Website: https://www.crisisservicescanada.ca/en/ Canadian Mental Health Association: https://cmha.ca Local in Alberta- AHS Mental Health Helpline (24/7): 1-877-303-2642 - #bellletstalk #mentalhealthmatters #bekindtoyourself #itsokaytonotbeokay #mentalillness #endthestigma #endthestigmaofmentalhealth #canadianmentalhealthassociation #albertamentalhealth #mentalwellness #selflove #mindsetmatters #mindfulness #mindbodyspirit See more

One way to monitor your improvement in cardiovascular fitness is through the use of HR zones. Many people use Fitbits and other wearable technology to monitor their HR, but not many know what the numbers mean to them. Often the HR on these monitors are based on Heart Rate Max (HR Max) as opposed to Heart Reserve (HRR) and for some HR Max may not be the right choice. Not saying one is better than the other, but perhaps the HRR or Karvonen method could provide a more suitable ...performance measure. HRR is a measure that takes your resting HR into consideration, where as HR Max factors in your age alone. Keep in mind that the HRR Method and HR Zone training are more ideal for healthy individuals rather than those with preexisting health conditions and one should always discuss with their physician if something of this nature is appropriate for them. - The above slides break down the calculations for HRR. In the Zone breakdown you see where your training percentages will factor in to your goals for your workout. - Zone 1 would be ideal for a recovery method (E.g.;walking), Zone 2 for light cardio or long distance work (jog or moderate run), Zone 3 for moderate intensity (running), Zone 4 & 5 for high intensity work (variable intensity and duration of sprints). - Overall noting these zones will help you gauge your performance needs whether that be daily or following a training cycle.
