We are so proud of The Synergy Foundation team for their incredible work on #MyFEDFarms! 514 homes were provided with garden kits including planters, soil, plants, seeds and more Over 65,000 seeds and plants started were donated to this initiative... 82 educational videos to support gardens were collected and created 1,115 people are directly benefiting from these gardens Over 10,000 pounds of food to be grown based on the planter growing capacity! Our community rallied behind this undertaking to support food security in a challenging time. The Province of BC is supporting a BC coastal clean up involving small ship expedition companies and crew Maple Leaf Adventures and Outer Shores Expeditions. With 6 weeks and 9 ships, they estimate they will remove between 75-100 tones of polluting marine debris off 1,000km of beaches along the Great Bear Rainforest. Client highlight from our 50 Sustainable Solutions campaign! The Victoria Conference Centre (VCC) has measured and reduced its carbon footprint since 2009. By focusing on energy and water improvements, lighting upgrades, waste diversion efforts, and installing a natural gas boiler fueled by Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), the VCC has reduced its carbon footprint by 70% since their baseline year. By opting for RNG, the VCC averted 57 tons of carbon from their greenhouse gas inven...tory in 2019, which is equivalent to 15 cars on the road per year. Renewable Natural Gas is a cleaner alternative to conventional natural gas. It is produced from purified decomposing organic waste from landfills, agricultural waste and wastewater from treatment facilities. Not only does RNG help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from heating and energy use, it also prevents organic waste from ending up in landfills and releasing methane into the atmosphere. As we continue to settle into a new reality, we are provided with an opportunity to reflect on what really matters and how we can show support and love to those around us. Take some time out of your day to check in with your family, a distant relative, friends, co-workers, or anyone you may know that may be impacted by fear and anxiety. Social distancing does not mean social isolation. Balance these harsh times with gentleness and show compassion and kindness to one another.... Reach out to your neighbors, the elderly and those who are vulnerable or alone. Manage your exposure to media coverage and actively manage your wellbeing. It is normal to feel afraid, worried, anxious and overwhelmed, but it is important to take care of ourselves, both physically and mentally. Lastly, a huge thank you to all healthcare workers around the world working tirelessly on the front lines of COVID-19. Please show your support to them during this time by donating any essential supplies (gloves, masks, hand sanitizer), helping them with childcare and groceries, but most importantly, staying home and staying safe.
