A few short years ago I struggled with a silent battle against myself. I was living a very happy life on the outside, but yet I was so depressed on the inside. There seemed to be no solution. I was scared and embarrassed to tell anyone. I was ashamed. Being depressed and struggling with anxiety for me meant not being able to get out of bed some days, not wanting to take care of myself, loosing interest in the things I once loved, working tirelessly to appear happy to oth...ers, doing absolutely nothing but feeling absolutely exhausted, wanting to go do something, but not wanting to do anything, making excuses and cancelling plans, working endlessly to push away the demons that told me that I didn’t matter, and I should just quit. A constant battle all in the privacy of my mind. It was scary. It was lonely. It was real. But I chose not to let that define me or defeat me. I chose to fight back. Some days I had to really push myself to find purpose, to find reason, to find gratitude. Fast forward to the present. I survived it. I pulled through. Although it came very close, I did it and I am proud of myself. I chose to do so by means of natural holistic modalities however there are so many other ways to fight this battle as well. I have learned that depression is very real, it’s an illness just like catching a cold, and just the same way that you need some TLC to work through that cold, just the same way that you need compassion, someone to reach out and make sure you’re ok, you need the same things when you are battling mental health illness. There’s no reason to be ashamed when you catch a cold and ask for help, there’s no reason to be ashamed when you are struggling with mental health illness and reaching out to someone either. Finally, the same way that you can pull through a cold, I’m here to tell you, you too can pull through this! Take care of yourself, give yourself grace! If you are not personally fighting this battle, know that there is a VERY good chance someone close to you is. Educate yourself. Get in the habit of checking in with those you love. Practice compassion and kindness. I want you to know that I am always here for you, if you need help I’ll help you find it, wether it’s through the modalities that helped me, speaking with someone, or finding hope with the help of medication. When I started practicing gratitude I didn’t know what to expect. I thought ok well it can’t hurt to jot down a few positive thoughts to start and end my day, I guess I have nothing to loose. What I didn’t know was that this simple act of starting and ending my day with positivity would not only shift my moods, thought processes and ambitions but it quite literally changed my life in so many amazing ways!! I began realize that I sometimes over looked the small details of ...my day that held so much importance and positivity. By taking the time to be grateful and celebrate even the small stuff, I began to see that the universe simply continued to provide me with more to be grateful for! If there’s one thing I can say to help get us all through the current circumstances it’s that even on the harder days there is always something to be thankful for. Dwell on that. Hold on to that and trust that the universe will continue to provide you with more to be grateful for. Practicing gratitude isn’t about asking the universe for more. It’s about celebrating the beautiful life you already have, being grateful for even the smallest of things and from this simple practice you will begin to further unfold the beautiful life you always imagined. I’ve live this truth first hand and that is why I swear by it!
