When COVID-19 hit Canada this year, communities across the country needed access to food and supplies. Sysco responded by leveraging our vast network of broadline and specialty companies to address hunger and food insecurity. Sysco Canada partnered with dozens of community organizations across the country to deliver over 5 million meals to Canadians in need. Globally, Sysco donated over 30 million meals and continues to focus on addressing food insecurity through our CSR i...nitiatives. During the global pandemic, Sysco launched a global mental health and well-being campaign, encouraging associates and leaders to take a pledge to support mental health. We also launched a global Real Talk initiative to promote safe, open and ongoing dialogue about racial and social injustice. Sysco established responsible sourcing commitments in the company’s U.S. and Canadian markets for four key commodities, including beef, paper, soy and coffee. Sysco also launched a new Animal Welfare Policy for Suppliers to contribute to the improvement of animal welfare practices across the industry. The policy supports science-based standards, encourages continuous improvement and broadens the scope to include dairy and Sysco Specialty Meat Group. MEET THE TEAM! Meet Chef Alejandro Winzer. Chef Alejandro found his passion for food in his mother’s kitchen and his father’s traditional German bakery. He studied Hotel Management and Culinary Arts and started his professional career sharing Mexican culture and food, working in several countries such as Belgium, Spain, Canada and the US. When he moved to Canada, he joined the team of Ristorante Verdicchio as the Executive Chef for seven years. During this period, he earned s...everal certificates and accolades such as C.C.C. certification (Certified Chef de Cuisine, WACS), Oakville branch member of the CCFCC, R.C.C. (Rational Certified Chef) and was welcomed as Maitre Rotisseur for La chaine des Rotisseurs. In 2015, he joined the team of the Fallsview Casino Resort as Chef de Cuisine for their 4 Diamond fine dining Italian Restaurant Ponte Vecchio. He was also a part time Adjunct Professor at the Niagara College School of Hospitality. In 2017 he joined Sysco Southwestern Ontario where he shared his skills & expertise as a Culinary Consultant wherein, he worked closely with the sales team and vendor community to deliver resources, solutions and innovation to Sysco costumers. In July 2019 he was promoted to Sysco Ontario South’s Regional Business Resources Consultant.
