TEAM Dog Rescue 10.11.2020

THE MANITOBA 13: We welcomed 13 beautiful dogs this weekend from Manitoba. For our rescue due to the logistics of ensuring every dog is in the ideal foster home and assigned one of our adoption coordinators and ensuring they have the supplies and support that they need and a very personal experience, 13 dogs in one transport is a large undertaking, for us, so we are really excited that we can help all these wonderful dogs and puppies find their furever homes. Thank you t...o all the volunteers who made this transport happen! Stay tuned for introductions to our Manitoba 13!

it's almost time to start the bidding! Only 1 more day until our online holiday auction goes live. We will be posting the live auction link on Sunday, Nov 15th at 8:00pm. The auction will run through until Sunday, Nov 22nd at 8:00pm. Please help us share the link with family, friends and co-workers. The more the merrier! We have something for everyone and are so incredibly thankful to those who reached out with items and services to donate, all in support of helping more dogs... in need. Every penny raised will go towards the vetting of dogs in our care and will allow us to open our program to more in need. With a very heavy heart, we have had to cancel all of our in person events for the foreseeable future BUT we are making sure that we do not let COVID stop us from helping dogs that need us. Our online holiday auction will help raise needed funds that will help us help them. This year we wanted to ensure our auction was inclusive and decided to ask our supporters not only for donations of items but also of services. We have some incredible bakers, photographers, artists and teachers in our community (among others) that offered their time. We have an upwards of 150 items and services for you to bid on We have so much in store for you and together look forward to raising money to help the dogs that need us the most. Heartfelt thank you to everyone in our community! Thank you for your support, always. Without Donations Like Yours, None of This Would be Possible Thank you.

BIENVENU: Means "welcome" in French. This weekend we have welcomed 3 lovely dogs from Quebec and we couldn’t be more thrilled to do so. Please meet our bonded pair, they are 8 years old and unfortunately found themselves surrendered to a local Quebec because their owner passed away. ... They have been together their entire lives and love each other incredibly so and are a true definition of a bonded pair. They are fantastic with people, will dance on their hind legs for a treat and are an incredible upgrade to home security, if someone comes to your door, believe me, you will know. They both have some medical issues that will require continuous maintenance for the duration of their lives. Namely they both suffer from luxating patellas and they will require joint support in the form of cartrophen shots every month along with other supplements to ensure their comfort level for many many years to come. They will be visiting with our veterinarian next week to determine if there is anything further we can provide to ensure they are most taken care of. A very special thank you to the shelter for entrusting them into our care and additionally to Critter Cabs: Animal Rescue Transports for transporting them to us yesterday, we know they provided many kisses to the volunteer drivers to convey their thanks. These two are incredibly adorable and just as equally entertaining, and we so look forward to finding their utopia. Please welcome Princess ( the Pomeranian on the left) and Felix ( the shih tzu on the right ) to our rescue.

CONFUSION: Tragedy can strike at any time, at any moment, on any given day. This 13 year old Shih Tzu unfortunately recently experienced a terribly tragedy, her owner passed away. She just lost the most important person to her, just like that. Her life was about to drastically change.... Before we continue telling you her story, we want to stop and take a minute to emphasize, this is a familiar story and will be YOUR story unless you make provisions for your pets. Stop reading please and take a moment to think, to really think of your wish list of where you would like your animals to live should something happen to you suddenly and you cannot care for them. Now call that person, and ask them the question, ask, if they will permit that you leave them your pets should you not be able to care for them. It doesn’t matter how old you are. You could be 30, 40 or 80. If any living being is dependent on you, you need to make provisions for them. Showering your pets with love while you are with them is important, but ensuring that continues to happen if your not here to provide it, is equally as important. Please, have the conversation with your loved ones today. Sadly, for this little girl, her owner didn't have many surviving family members, nobody else was able to take his precious dog in within his circle, and as a result, she was displaced and found herself at a local shelter, a shame, as it was clear, she was his most prized possession. Senior dogs are a shelter’s most vulnerable residents, and they truly are in most dire need of a change in venue. It can be so traumatizing and confusing for a senior to find themselves in new surroundings, a foster home at the very least can provide them with the comforts that they had come to know even though they are aware so much has drastically changed in their life. She Is very confused and very frightened. With time, we know she will let her guard down. With time, we will find her next chapter with a new family to call her own. Please welcome, Maddie, to our rescue. Thank you for joining her journey.

FREEDOM: Every week, volunteers at Critter Cabs: Animal Rescue Transports conduct freedom transports from Quebec, to Ontario, welcoming animals in need of rescue placement from shelters throughout both provinces. Today, we have two dogs joining us through these transports, both from different directions, one dog (below) from Quebec, and another from a shelter in southwestern Ontario. You may look at this picture and see nothing more than a dog, in the front seat of a car dri...ving shotgun, as she is about to meet the next driver on her journey to Toronto. But let us tell you what you really are witnessing. A 9 year old tiny Jack Russell who has suffered a life of neglect and abuse. For 9 years she lived in deplorable conditions, in a cage, caked with her own excrement and urine. All. Day. Long. She will have a medical journey ahead of her, she is in dire need of a dental, a joint support regime that will keep her comfortable, but most importantly, as a result of her previous living conditions, getting her skin and chronic ear infections under control. And once we do, we will begin her quest to find her utopia with a family who will love her unconditionally and make up for the 9 years she lost. So you see, it is not just a dog in a car afterall. This, is freedom.

**NEW APPLICATIONS CLOSED - Due to overwhelming interest, we are no longer accepting new applications for Odyn. We thank everyone who shared, emailed, and posted about this sweet boy. We will be contacting those who have already submitted an application soon. Thank you!** EMOTIONAL SUPPORT HUMAN WANTED: Often at TEAM, we hear from many people who want to adopt a dog. When asked for why someone wants to adopt a dog, "companionship" is often provided as a reason. Dogs have been... our companions for eons and we have been their protectors. When a dog begins its life, they give us their unwavering and unconditional love, support and companionship. This time though, we are asking for a role reversal. We are seeking a special family to provide companionship to Odyn and see him through his golden years. Odyn is an approximately 11 year old, medium-sized dog. We have every reason to believe that he was loved and looked after well. Unfortunately, his owner had a sudden and unexpected life-threatening event leaving Odyn to be on his own and being fed by kind workers in his apartment building, and we were fortunate to be contacted so we could welcome him into our care as he was in dire need of help. . He came to us anxious, scared and confused but slowly came out of his shell in his foster home. Behaviourally, Odyn is a perfect gentleman. He is a mature dog who has already been through his puppy, adolescent and adult phases. He has done his job of being a loyal companion to humans. If fate had not intervened, he would be enjoying his golden years with his human. He has earned the right to retire in peace. He is now seeking a companion and a loving retirement home. He is a sweet soul that will bring a calm energy to any home. He is used to living with a cat and has been relaxed around dogs he has met on walks. He is friendly with people. He gets excited for his walks and though he walks slowly, he forces you slow down and appreciate the beauty that surrounds you. Medically, Odyn has some age-related issues that are common in older dogs. He has some muscle loss in his hind leg and back. He is on joint health supplements to help with his mobility and keep his legs strong. He shows some signs of canine cognitive dysfunction, and requires some routine and structure to his day. He also has some age-related dental issues. As we begin tending to Odyn's medical needs to ensure he is comfortable, we have been drawing up a blueprint of Odyn's ideal family. It is one that has a backyard, who can take him on a couple of short strolls around the neighbourhood, can provide a calm environment for him to snooze and be able to provide comfort and company to him. If you are interested in adopting Odyn, please complete an online adoption application at www.teamdogrescue.ca/adoptables. For more information on Odyn, you can contact his adoption coordinator, Gurleen, at [email protected].
