Our daughter is quite sensitive, and is filled with big emotions, much bigger than her tiny size. We always try to encourage expressing emotions, instead of trying to squash or ignore them. She really has a hard time with expressing emotions, and holds on tightly. Yesterday she said she will try to "think her emotions away"...... But we can't do that. We may think we can. But feelings will always find a way to come out, and if we don't give them an outlet they may find a way out in the form of a physical ailment. So we suggested a dance party. Dance allows us to firstly feel our feelings, which is important because our feelings give us a lot of information about ourselves and our world. Then, dance moves those feelings through us and lets us to release them. And it feels amazing! According to psychologist Peter Lovatt, dancing releases more endorphins than any other form of exercise. We all have a lot of emotions running through our body, especially now in this emotionally-charging times in our world. This week we invite you to dance your emotions out, rather than use dance as a distraction. Dance on your own or join a (virtual) session, and intentionally feel and release as you dance. And we are here for you if you need support, just reach out.

Last night I had the pleasure and honour to teach safe movement and confidence to a beautiful group of amazing Israeli women in Vancouver and area. We mostly talked about posture and the negative effects of sitting in front of the computer for hours, and how our posture affects our confidence level and vice versa: how the way we think and feel about ourselves impacts the way we hold our body. This was the first time I taught in Hebrew since my university days, so I was a bit... nervous... But I used the same techniques I taught at this workshop to calm my body and boost my confidence, and I was able to get through the whole evening with correct posture without needing to think about it :) I'm so grateful to these women for showing up at the end of a weekend because they believe they deserve to work on their wellbeing! You are amazing!

In the past week this song from the musical "Rent" was playing in my head, and it brought up this question: how do you measure a year? I'm not usually one for December reflections, but I knew this song came to me all of a sudden for a reason. I guess this December feels different. None of us had any idea what 2020 was going to bring, and it turned out to be a year that will most likely enter the history books.... I've experienced all of the emotions this year and felt all of the feelings. So much has happened, and so little. Time has passed so fast, and also very slow. I've grown and shrunk. I moved forward and stood still. So how do I measure this whirlwind of a year? "In five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes How do you measure a year in a life?" the song asks, and then answers: "How about love? Measure in love" MEASURE IN LOVE! So, inspired by this song, on this New Year's Eve I'm going to measure my year in LOVE: I love that this year I spent more time with my children and my partner. I love that this year I connected to myself in new ways. I love that this year I discovered that I love to support dancers, both physically and emotionally. I love that this year I created a Facebook group to do exactly that, and poured into it my love for dancers. I love that this year I witnessed how the Israeli Dance world didn't let a pandemic stop what we love to do most, and found a way to continue dancing while connecting people across continents. I love that this year I learned that I can bring my love of Israeli Dance to others in new ways. I love that this year I learned so much about my own journey. And I love that this year I connected with dancers from all over the world! And for all of that I am very grateful! So before we set our intentions for 2021, let's take a moment to look back at our year with LOVE. Wishing you a happier and healthier New Year, filled with more dancing and more love! See more
