It all begins with a single step I did not go to school to learn what I do I built Talent 2 Design from a cookie - literally ... A single mom of 3 on ODSP, living with ABI (Acquired Brain Injury) and Frontal Lobe BRAIN tumour (astrocytoma) With a desire to change life, somehow some way. All I knew was Nursing. Only thing I had done and educated to do. Unable to practice anymore as my licence suspended with CNO due to my brain injury. Where does this leave me ?? In July 2016 I made cookies for the youngest 1st birthday in this itsy bitsy kitchen. Keep in mind I had never baked, nor decorated. I bought a mixer for $100 and used my grandma's cutting board and rolling pin. It's amazing to see what Talent 2 Design has evolved to. Looking back and seeing my art evolve. By no means do I know everything. I am always learning, and absorbing new techniques. I also practice a lot. My work weeks are 60+ hours !! I am sharing this with you. Why? We all have a dream, an idea. I inspire you, especially now during this pandemic to take that leap and go for it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I am excited to share what's ahead for Talent 2 Design this year - but not just yet Patience people!!!!! This business has provided so much for our families life. It comes with much sacrifice and hard work as well. In June I did something solely for ME- it's time to share with you all what I've been up to. 2020 began with multiple admissions to ICU for asthma exasterbation. I was placed on a ventilator for longer and longer durations. It was in March when the worst came. And news that if I did not change how I was living life, I would soon be unable to come off a ventilator. ...This was my life changing moment. In June, once restrictions lifted enough I embarked on weight loss surgery. My last resort to achieving health and wellness. A lifetime of obesity, and in the last decade multiple treatments for my brain tumour with steroid therapy that truly takes a toll on the body. MGB was performed thanks to SmartShape Weight Loss Centre in Toronto with Dr Coburn. It is now December and I am 6 months post op. I've lost over 100lbs. I am half way to my goal. I choose to celebrate this milestone. Thanks to the extremely talented Jennifer McCready owner of Lady Luck Photography Studio we documented this milestone with these amazing images. Friday Flashback..... This weekend I will be personally hitting a HUGE MILESTONE here at T2D, which I cannot wait to share with you all. Rewind to mid July 2016, Aspen (my youngest of 3) her 1st Bday. These cookies, are what started this business. The guests commented how amazing they were. It was the first time in my life I baked from scratch. Or decorated anything pertaining to food. I am no culinary ninja. My background is in Health Sciences (Nursing) with a hobby in vis...ual arts. And this folks, is where Talent 2 Design was born. We all have a starting point. And this was mine . Following my catastrophic MVA in 2008, I never imagined this to be possible. Second chances do happen. Each day is a gift. One of my all time favorite movies, The Vow. This quote resonates in ways you cannot phantom. "The moment of impact. The moment of impact proves potential for change. Has ripples effects far beyond what we can predict. Sending some particles crashing together. Making them closer than before. While sending others spinning off into great ventures. Landing them where you've never thought you've found them. That's the thing about moments like these. You can't, no matter how hard you try, controlling how it's gonna affect you. You just gotta let the colliding part goes where they may. And wait. For the next collision." Did you know T2D began with a single order of decorated sugar cookies in 2016? This is the process of creating custom cookies. It began with creating an amazing recipie for sugar cookies, trial, error then perfection. Followed by a recipie for Royal Icing, which has become one of our Signature Icings. Often imitated, never duplicated. ... The cookie dough, and icing is all made in house, here at Talent 2 Design. Our Baker, mixes the dough, cuts the choosen designs using cutters from our collection. And if we do not have a cutter, we now have a 3D printer to print our own. The icing colors are mixed. Bagged individually by our Professional Artist. The design is hand piped onto each cookie. Followed by flooding of each, individual color. These colors require time in between to dry. To ensure they do not bleed into one another. For this order of Mario Brothers Inspired Cookies, 7 colors were used for example. Average amount for 1 order is 7 to 10. Once the design is filled with all the colors. Cookies dry overnight Then packaged either on a platter or individually wrapped. These Mario Brothers cookies will be individually wrapped. And that my friends, is the process of Sugar Cookies. We require at least 1 week notice. And this is why.
