So the question posted by the former councilor (he has tried and failed twice to get back to the council table) who can’t seem to let this horrific chapter in Collingwood history go was: Is this the sort of politician you want as our next MPP? My answer is YES. ... Mayor Saunderson (along with council) triggered the process by which Ontario Superior Court Associate Chief Justice Frank N. Marrocco (the top legal mind in the province if not all of Canada) reviewed the facts, listened to witnesses, consulted with municipal experts from around the province, and delivered these words upon delivering his final report: Significant matters are addressed in my report. Unfair bidding practices, unfair procurement practices, conflicts of interest, inaccurate and misleading Town Council reports, the misuse and inappropriate disclosure of the Town’s confidential information, and a failure to respect the roles and responsibilities of council members and staff. In other words, behaviour that left unaddressed undermines the foundational core and reputation of a municipal government. It is obvious that the first 50 percent sale didn’t have to take place. If not for that flawed process, Collingwood would still own all of Collus. For the bully blogger to ignore that key fact and continue to drone on about how the Town managed to sell the remaining half of the utility (and get great value in doing so) is ridiculous and shameful. Significant changes have been made around the council table and in staffing throughout Town Hall following the exit of the group responsible for the first 50 percent Collus Sale and Recreational Facilities construction. I do agree with the bully blogger on one thing he keeps saying Collingwood Deserves Better and we got it! The blame for the cost of the inquiry sits at the feet of those who remain under investigation (OPP investigation still active). Everyone had their day in court. The judge has filed his report. Let’s move on. Click on this link to read the report ... the real facts: https://www.collingwoodinquiry.ca/report/index.html

Then and Now: Another look at First and Maple Street ...

Looking Back - 1938 - playing ball in a field where Loblaw's is now located close to First and Hurontario Streets. These people would be standing where the checkouts are now! The tall building in the background is where Sol Kitchen is presently located.

This is a photo of Eleanor Richards with her dog Laddy (and an unknown friend) taken on the breakwall (now covered in large rocks) along what is now called Heritage Way (the dock) beside the Collingwood Terminals. Looking behind them to the right, you can see the former Shipyard's water tower and a couple of shipyard buildings. 1938

Looking back to the 50's!! (late 40's) First Street between Beech and Pine Streets used to flood after a rain storm. This is the corner of Maple and First Streets, looking north. Kerr's Garage became Conn's Garage and then Leal's Garage. It is now the plaza with Roger's, the UPS Store, Mr. Submarine, etc. When I was a kid (a few years later!!), Frank McDonald, Peter Watts, John Palmer, John Leal and I used to climb the stairs around those fuel tanks to the left! Good thing we didn't smoke! (a former Mayor used to climb those stairs too!!)
