Breastfeeding is a LEARNED BEHAVIOUR When speaking with first-time parents, I often compare breastfeeding with walking. Even though it's natural, you have to... learn how to do it. It's not just as simple as putting your baby up to your breast/chest. The best way to learn how to breastfeed is through observing others do it. But many of us have never spent any length of time with a newborn, unless it's our own. A breastfeeding class will teach you different ways to hold your baby; the football hold is great for caesarean parents. We discuss what types of hunger cues your baby is giving you and how to spot them. For those new to breastfeeding, we discuss how our amazing bodies make milk, how to best avoid low milk supply and how to tell if your baby is drinking enough milk. Our first series of workshops is dedicated to first-time parents and those who've had breastfeeding challenges in the past. We are currently developing classes for breastfeeding the older baby, formula feeding and comfort measures during birth. If you'd like to stay updated on any of these future classes, drop us a DM!
