The majority of clients that I see during this time come to me with issues relating to dehydration. Dehydration is the lack of water in the skin due to TEWL (trans epidermal water loss). TEWL is the loss of water through evaporation from the epidermis to the air. This usually happens due to the low moisture levels in the surrounding environment. Dehydrated skin can feel tight, dry and itchy. It can be more prone to irritation due to its compromised barrier function. When obse...rved it may look dull, flaky and will show fine lines. Tips to Prevent and Treat Dehydrated Skin: 1. Drink lots of water. 2. Use humidifiers in your home. 3. Use gentle cleansers to wash your skin (this will prevent over stripping the skin). 4. Use products that are fragrance free. The barrier function of the skin may be compromised if you are dealing with dehydration and we want to prevent irritation from occurring. 5. Use a hyaluronic acid serum after cleansing and before moisturizing your skin. 6. Moisturize morning and night. 7. Apply sunscreen every morning (SPF30+). 8. Exfoliate 2 to 3 times per week. Preferably with a low percentage chemical exfoliant (AHA or lactic acid). Use this at night. *If you haven’t used chemical exfoliants before do a patch test on your skin first. It’s normal to feel a bit of tingling but if it persists wash off with water. 9. This tip is something that I’ve been trying and loving! Apply your moisturizer over damp skin. This helps to add and lock in extra moisture. If you’re finding that you're struggling with dehydrated skin contact me to book a facial. Facials are a great way to improve the barrier function of the epidermis. I want all my clients to have the best skin possible! I will also provide you with a targeted skin care plan to improve your unique skin. #skincare #skincaretips #yycbeauty #yycdeals #yycbeautydeals #facials #dehydratedskin #skinhydration #beautyadvice #beautytips #skincareeducation #yycsmallbusiness #yycbeautyspa #yycfacials

Waxing is the temporary removal of unwanted body or facial hair. The hair is removed from the roots and will usually grow back within 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the individual and the amount of waxing that they do. Some of the benefits of waxing are: -Skin becomes softer. Waxing removes the top layer of dead skin cells; this makes the skin look and feel smoother. It will also help your skin care products to absorb and perform better.... -You don’t have to deal with cuts, razor burns or stubble. -With consistency and repeated waxing, hair will grow back softer, finer and become less sparse. Some clients have experienced hair regrowth after 6 weeks of waxing. If you’re interested in booking a wax appointment please contact me by phone or email! What is it? Maskne, also known as acne mechanica, is acne and irritation caused by the repeated or prolonged wearing of face masks. Some people are more at risk of getting it. Especially if they have to wear tighter fitting face masks or if they have to wear them for long periods of time. This includes healthcare workers, teachers and unfortunately a lot of us! What causes it?... Wearing masks allows for a moisture rich environment to develop around the mouth, chin and jawline area. This creates the perfect conditions for bacteria to thrive and can lead to clogged pores and acne. Irritation can be caused by the friction of the mask rubbing against the skin. How to prevent it? There are a few things that we can do to prevent maskne. 1. If using reusable face masks make sure to wash them regularly. 2. Cleanse your face twice a day with a cleanser for your skin type. Cleansing your face once you are done wearing your mask for the day would be ideal. Note: Make sure not to over cleanse (no more than twice per day). This can strip the skin barrier. A healthy skin barrier is especially important in preventing irritation from occurring. 3. Avoid wearing makeup. Makeup can clog pores and increase the risk of bacterial growth. 4. Use simple fragrance-free products when wearing your mask, such as a moisturizer. Treatment products and active ingredients can be used before bed. 5. Use a light chemical exfoliant at night such as a lactic acid or an AHA. How to treat it? If you do develop acne you can use a benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid (2%) spot treatment at night. Make sure that if retinol is part of your night time routine to interchange the nights when using the retinol and the acne spot treatments. If you develop a rash, it could be contact dermatitis from the fabric of the mask. You could consider changing to a different type of mask. You can also see a doctor if the rash persists. #maskne #skincaretips #yycbeauty #yycspa #facials #skin #acnetreatment #facemask #skincareroutines #skincare #esthetician #beautytips #yycdeals
