Sharing some inspiration from @structurlam, North America's leading mass timber solutions manufacturer. . This is a photo of the Ronald McDonald House (@rmjbc), "the first project in North America to use a hybrid mass timber (cross laminated timber) and light wood floor construction method in a tilt-up format. . Construction involved laying out a series of CLT panels on the ground, each pre-fitted with ledgers to support floor joists as necessary. These panels were then tilt...ed into place and stabilized until the horizontal structure is installed." . CLT offers high strength and structural simplicity needed for cost effective buildings and has a lighter environmental footprint than concrete or steel. It also requires less time for installation, reduced waste, improved thermal performance and design visibility. . Food for thought! See more

The next step in our #WestVanGarageExpansion was to begin pouring surrounding concrete and filling in all the blanks. We are nearing the end of this project - next time we will show you how concrete steps are made!

Ending this week with some local architectural inspiration - @RandyBens and his passive house project. According to his website, "Located in North Vancouver, this Passive House starts construction in 2017. The energy performance is impressive, and approaching Passive House Plus. Solar panels on the roof will allow the project to have a net zero energy footprint." And it features a very beautiful and space efficient storage solution for books and decorations!

Ending this week with some architectural inspiration from @BlueSkyArch and a garden view of their Arbutus House. . This island home design curves along a ridge with a spectacular view. Coloured glass tiles and red cedar siding with inset galvalume strips make this home elegant, unique and memorable. . Visit their page for more modern architecture but always with a nod to nature.
