Such powerful words.
"It's great if a kid finds manipulating numbers comes naturally, or starts reading at age three. But it's just as wonderful if a child has a real sense of when ...things are out-of-place and likes organizing, or loves working with wood, or has a knack for growing things, or a seemingly innate sense of the right thing to say when someone is sad." Together, we take pride in their accomplishment and their commitment to providing quality care to the children. Congratulations on your milestone!

Tykes and Tots programs will be closed on Tuesday, November 10 and reopening Thursday November 12. This decision was made following the news that GSCS and Public schools will be closed again tomorrow. Stay safe everyone and hopefully we’ll get dug out soon!
All Tykes and Tots locations will be closed Monday November 9 due to the winter storm and unsafe road conditions. Stay safe everyone!
Interesting study done in Finland.
As we enter into the colder months, getting outside is very important for young children, and for adults too! This article has good suggestions to make outside play enjoyable through the winter season. Happy Sunday all!!

SOME KIDS NEED A HUG WHILE OTHER KIDS JUST NEED A LITTLE TIME AND SPACE Tantrums are a normal part of child development. Theyre how young children show that theyre upset or frustrated. Tantrums may happen when kids are tired, hungry, or uncomfortable.
This has some really good tips for helping your child stay safe.
Our East Side Director, Denise Skuce, is a certified forest school practitioner and a strong advocate for outdoor play and risky play for children. She recently conducted a Risky Play webinar for Sask Outdoors. Heres the link to the recording of that webinar. If you have any questions about the information in the webinar, please feel free to comment or PM. https://youtu.be/N-f6SU4z_N0
So happy to finally have our sand box in at our Laurier Drive location. Best sandbox ever!!! The kiddos are loving it.
Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers and father figures. Hope you have a fantastic day!!!
Adults are not entertainers, but rather EMPOWERERS. How you begin the conversation that follows Im bored" MATTERS. Boredom is not something to be feared or sh...amed, it is something to be celebrated! Respond in a way that authentically EMPOWERS children. Boredom IS EXCITING, it IS fantastic. Boredom is nothing that needs to be fixed by adults either filling a childs schedule with things to do, or shooed away so it never happens again. It is not to be disregarded with snide comments of well Ill find you something to do. EMBRACE IT with authentic excitement and follow each childs unique lead from there!
Thanks to Lindsay Lowe for nominating our Laurier location for the Home Quarter House welcome back coffee break. Much appreciated. Thanks 98 Cool for making this happen!!!
This is a cute one. Happy Tuesday everyone!!
I love this story from Teacher Tom. There are two lessons here - one is to pick your battles. The second one is to empower children to make decisions and have control over aspects of their life - within the parameters of their development and ability. The concept being discussed in the story certainly wouldnt be applicable for a one year old - but for a preschooler - definitely appropriate.
Wishing everyone a fabulous May long weekend. Relax and watch some ladybugs. :)
Today is Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. A huge shout out to everyone working in the early learning field. Your work makes a difference every day to the families that you support. Thank you also to all those who support our work - parents, volunteer board of director members, school principals and superintendents, Ministry of Education staff and many many more. The work that our educators do cant happen without the support of so many other people and organizations and we thank you for everything you do. Happy ECE Day all!!
From a group in Delta, BC. Some free and fun indoor and online activities for children.
Happy Mothers Day!! Wishing everyone a fantastic day.
We might want to distract or "cheer up" our child when the tears come, as we have been taught to be uncomfortable around sadness or upset. It is time to get com...fortable with the uncomfortable. Let those tears flow... let your child work through his feelings rather than be discouraged from experiencing them. Love this sage advice from the wonderful Teacher Tom.
May has been declared Early Childhood Educator month. Happy ECE month to all of our staff and to everyone working in the field. Remember - not all heroes wear capes - some are early childhood educators!!
