Día de los Muertos Exhibition @ Peter McKernick Community Gallery Participating with my painting: Tué Domó/ Mujer de la Tierra My artwork explores my connection to nature and the cycle of life, death and rebirth.... My painting Tué Domó / Mujer de la tierra en Mapuche is a humble homage to Mother Earth. The choice of media used in my painting adds a deeper meaning to the piece, by using all natural materials such as the wood panel , botanical dyes from my own plants , seeds, beeswax, ink, pigments, handmade papers etc. In my painting the inner circle symbolizes the life cycle. outside the circle in each corner I have the Mapuche symbols for the seasons plus the four cardinal points. These symbols have a deep meaning to the Mapuches; the indigenous people of Chile, my country of birth. Trees play a significant role in the spirituality of the indigenous people of Latin America, the Mapuches for example have El Canelo , the sacred tree and the Mayas the tree of life. According to the Mapuche cosmovision the universe has three planes I show these planes in my painting where the tree top is the upper world the base of the tree is the physical and the roots is the underworld. The woman head symbolizes the duality of Life and death. I celebrate the fact that I am playing my part in the natural miracle of life and that my life is only a small fraction of the whole. See more
Encaustics Ecoprint on wood panel, 4X4, the wax brought out the beautiful colours of the maple leaf natural dyes, leaving an imprint that’s going to last forever, I added a hint of gold as a remainder that nature is worthy to be treasured.
