Throwing it back to @citynewstoronto when we discussed back to school anxiety, but still so relevant now! Anxiety is a huge topic all year long, so here’s a few things to look out for and remember: Kids can lack emotional language and awareness. They might not know how to verbalize what they are feeling or know what they are feeling. The might be reacting to the anxiety and not able to respond to it in a productive way.... Knowing this, we need to help them develop emotional awareness and provide emotional and model emotional language. Anxiety can present in a predictable way through shyness, tears and introverted tendencies aka flight. It can also present as anger, defiance, push back and melt downs aka flight. The main take away here is we need to model and encourage emotional awareness and language to help our kids get to the core of their emotions and triggers. So many search for others to fill voids, to validate them to make them feel whole. Many are left still feeling empty, feeling clingy, feeling insecure. #ValentinesDay brings this up for many and as cliche as it sounds you definitely need to love yourself first. If someone is completely you when they aren’t there you feel a void, if they walk away you’re left with a hole. ... But now, if you are whole to begin with if they aren’t there you still feel full, if they walk away no hole is left. When we look for those to enhance us and not make us whole, we can stand alone and stand in love for ourselves vs standing because of love. I always ask do you like yourself? Would you want to be around yourself? Would you be interested in you? If the answer is no, those things needs attention before or at least as you open up to attention from others. The love for ourselves is so powerful, practice #selflove today. #validation #codependency #outervalidation #selfesteem #relationships #toxicrelationships #mentalhealth

Anxiety is severely influenced by your thoughts. Notice your thoughts, notice if they’re negative or positive and how they are influencing your mood. ... If they are negative take notice and challenge them... are they true, helpful, realistic, worst case scenario? Change the thought to something more positive, realistic, optimistic or true.
