Tapiola Ski Trails will stay open during the lockdown. The order has listed food, health care, work and exercise as essential needs.
Trails still in good condition!
Happy New Year's Eve - How about a moonlit ski? 1 km. loop lit until 9:00 pm.
FRESH SNOW! Trails are being groomed this morning and will be ready this afternoon. As the new owner of Tapiola I'm excited to be part of a community who loves to ski and re-connect to nature. We've been asked if Tapiola allows dogs, snowshoeing and tobogganing. My first response is YES!!! I want to encourage all of these activities. However I have been reminded by others that some people are not comfortable with dogs and some owners do not 'scoop the poop', that the trails can be compromised by snowshoeing and tobogganing. Tapiola has a fine tradition of offering cross-country skiing and I would like to honour and enable the best conditions for skiing. So as a 'rule' during ski season 'no dogs, toboggans, or snowshoes on the trails'. Enjoy this splendid gift of snow during the holidays. Warmly, Arlene Thorn
TAPIOLA is OPEN. Trails are groomed. Skiing is great. See you soon.
Snow Machine returns today! The ‘Trail Guys’ brought their machine back to Tapiola today and the children at the Northern Lights School Friday Adventure Program got a chance to climb on. Unsure of who was going to buy the property and what was to happen, the snow machine and equipment was removed before the sale. Today it all came back again and now it will be housed in a sea container on site. All we need now is snow!
Fresh snow! The trail makers have gone over the 1km. loop with the roller but its still rough in places. Not enough snow yet to make trail.
Gnome Fair - Sat. Dec. 5th - Outdoor Magic for the Whole Family
"A blessing to be at Tapiola. In the woods, snow fresh on the ground, lantern lights dancing along the path, a fire, songs...children laughing, families together. Great Warmth and Beauty."
Bring or make a lantern. A lantern can be a preserving jar with a votive candle or tea light inside. The jar can be decorated with bits of coloured tissue and the lid open for air. A piece of string can be tied on either side of the jar ring to carry the lantern. OR you can bring a smallish flashlight.
Memberships - It was a great pleasure to meet the many skiers this weekend getting memberships at our Open House on Sunday. For those who were not able to make it you can register at www.tapiolaski.ca
Open House Tomorrow. Drop-by for a visit and Ski Memberships. We’d like to meet you. Arlene Thorn and Joe O’Hearn
