I know there's been confusion about the stay-at-home order. I've tried to provide some clarity in my update this week. It's been a hard couple of weeks. Let me know how you've been coping. https://www.teresaarmstrong.com/weekly_update_january_15th

3029 long-term care resident deaths as of today. That's 3029 lives that were cut short & 3029 families in mourning. And still the Ford gov't has yet to launch a recruitment strategy that could prevent more deaths. There's still time. He could act today and save lives.

Needless to say this is the bare minimum. For us to be able to stem the deadly tide of this virus, the Premier needed to make significant investments to keep our community safe. Ford did not announce any new help for long-term care homes, where the virus is raging. No changes were made to big box stores, or most workplaces. No paid sick days were brought in, and no new help at all for workers or businesses were announced. Here's what we in the Ontario NDP, along with countle...ss experts, are demanding: - At least 10,000 more staff in long-term care, plus infection prevention and control experts in every nursing home - Paid sick days so people stop being forced to spread the virus at work - A ban on evictions so people don’t work sick out of fear of eviction - Self-isolation centres - A massive ramp-up of testing and contact tracing, including in-workplace and in-school testing, and the vaccination schedule - Restricting non-essential travel in between regions Find out more about the stay-at-home order here: https://news.ontario.ca//ontario-declares-second-provincia

70% of COVID-19-related deaths in Ontario have come from long-term care. And yet the sector only makes up just over 6% of vaccinations thus far. Once again, long-term care is not the priority for this government.
