4 simple neck exercises you can do everyday to improve your neck pain. Chin tucks: Start in a seated position with your shoulders relaxed. Look straight forward. Tuck your chin in, as to resemble a double chin, hold this position for 5 seconds. Repeat 8-10 times. Shoulder Shrugs: Relax your arms by your side or on a table. Shrug your shoulders up to your ears. Hold this position, before you completely relax your shoulders back down. Repeat 10-15 times.... Trapezius stretch: Start in a seated position. Place the hand on the symptomatic side under your chair. Take your other hand and place it on your head. Tilt your ear directly down towards your shoulder and hold this position for 10 seconds. You should feel a stretch down the side of your neck. Repeat it 6-8 times. Levator Scapulae stretch: Start in a seated position. Place the hand of the side you want to stretch behind your back. Take the opposite hand and pull your head forwards and to the opposite side at an angle, until you feel a stretch from the base of your skull down into your shoulder blade. Hold this stretch for 10 seconds and repeat 6-8 times. Postural pain in kids: Neck and back pain in kids is a common complaint due to poor posture, wrong movement patterns and lack of activity and exercise. Poor posture is usually habitual and makes them vulnerable to injury and pain. Pain arises from excessive stress placed on muscles, joints, ligaments and soft tissues in the spine. How do we assess the postural disorders in kids: We conduct a thorough examination of your child’s spine: range of motion, muscle length, stren...gth, core stability, postural awareness. We identify the contributing factors to their pain and make a plan tailored to their specific needs and goals. Meet our Physiotherapist’s Assistant, April. Here is some Fun facts about her. April graduated the OTA/PTA program at Durham college in 2019. April has been with the TG physio team for a year now as a PTA/ Admin assistant and has been enjoying her time here with all the patients she has met. She has helped many patients in their recovery process. She is passionate about patient care and making all patients feel comfortable and relaxed when the enters the clinic. During April’...s free time she enjoys spending time with her family, taking a dip in her pool, prayer and mediation. April’s interests are in traveling and exploring the world once it is safe to, as well as spiritual prayers and reading her bible. She is also interested in working in the pediatrics field helping children with various diagnoses and assisting in fine and gross motor skills.
