Let’s see what you have been up to. Festival is a go with some changes this year.

Welcome to the first ever Tavria Virtual Festival This is a learning curve for all of us! With current Saskatchewan Covid restrictions, we are postponing the Tavria Virtual Festival to April 17, 2021.... Please use our online registration system: http://tavriaregistration.azurewebsites.net/. If you can’t remember your username and password, or are new to our festival system, please email [email protected]. Entry fee is $10 per dancer per entry. Please let your families know that solos, duets, etc. are welcome to participate even if the whole school is not! Registration and video presentation deadline: Monday, April 5, 2021. The platform to submit videos will be announced asap. Please do your best when videoing dances. Some groups will have access to a stage and others will be in their studio. We welcome your submissions in costume, or in practice clothing, whichever is available! Please follow provincial health guidelines. In Saskatchewan masks are mandatory. Currently only 8 dancers are permitted to practice together and should be reflected in the dance entered. If the regulations relax, then the number of dancers per entry may increase! We are looking into platforms to showcase our dancers online. We will provide more information closer to the date! We will provide a media release form. If you do not want your dance(s) shared online, please email [email protected]. Dance schools will receive voice adjudication for each dance entered in the Festival. Dancers will receive a certificate of achievement with their mark. No trophies will be awarded in 2021. We look forward to seeing your Covid inspired choreography!

Tavria is holding a Tupperware Fundraiser to help support our costuming needs. This event will run online, on Facebook, in a group. specific to the event. Please join the group to see all the up to date details. The event will take place over two days, Oct 22-24. On Saturday Oct 23rd at 8pm the Tupperware Consultant will go live in the group to explain more. She will have more information and photos of the products available during the fundraiser. ... There is a fundraiser flyer in the group. One of the neat things about fundraisers with Tupperware is that the items are items that are otherwise not available in the regular catalogue. Another neat part is that 40% of what is purchased comes back to us in the fundraiser. 40% is HUGE gains for us. Most importantly, invite your friends and family or share the flyer with them.

We would now like to introduce Tennille. Tennille has been an instructor with Tavria for 4 years and I was also a dancer with Tavria for 18 years! This year she... is instructing the Junior group. We asked Tennille what her favourite parts of Ukrainian dancing/teaching are and this is what she had to say. "My first favourite part about instructing is getting to see my dancers every week. My second favourite part about instructing is teaching my dancers the importance of strength, elegance and rhythm in Ukrainian Dance. My favourite region to dance is Hutzul because of the fast footwork and upbeat music. And my favourite region to instruct is Poltava because of the fun, intricate combinations! My favourite step is an abertase turn!" Have a great year with the Juniors, Tennille!

Tavria would like to introduce Jenna! Jenna is instructing our Beginner B group and Tavrianka 1 for 2020/2021. My favourite part of instructing is seeing the ...smiles on the children’s faces when they come running off the stage after they just performed their little hearts out. Seeing how proud they are of themselves makes me sooooo proud, I sometimes tear up backstage! It’s a special moment and I’m very grateful I, as an instructor get to have that moment with these children. Jenna’s favourite region to dance was poltavksy, lemko, buko, hutzul and gypsy. Haha. She doesn’t have a favourite. It is obvious she just loves dancing. Jenna’s favourite region to instruct is hutzul. She loves the energy of the region, music and choreography. Jenna began dancing with Tavria at 4 years of age. She continued dancing until she began a teaching internship with Tavria at the young age of 14 or 15. She moved to Ottawa for a few years and upon moving back home to Regina she came back to teaching again last year. It’s a joy to teach for Tavria and to teach the traditional folk dance that we have all grown up with. It’s important to me to share not only my love for dancing with my kids, but also my passion for the Ukrainian culture and traditions. I’ve met and have gained many friendships from this community. It’s amazing to be able to have my son dancing with Tavria as well as seeing other former dancers have their children in the organization as well. We wish Jenna and her group a fun, successful and safe dance year.
