Hi everyone please be advised that our phone service provider is reporting outages in service that started sometime Monday afternoon. They have assured me they are working to solve it asap, in the meantime if you call and the line just rings endlessly, disconnects or says it's not in service feel free to email us at [email protected]. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have this resolved as soon as possible.

Hi All! I've had a lot of questions about masks over the last few weeks and thought I would give you a quick overview of some of the common questions and answers here. Q: Do I HAVE to wear a mask?...Continue reading

Hello everyone. We just wanted to let you know that next week we will be open regular hours Monday - Wednesday (June 29 - July 1) and will be closed Thursday, Friday and Monday (July 2, 3, & 6). We will reopen for regular hours on Tuesday July 7. Take care!

Now that the worst of the COVID outbreak seems to be behind us (we hope) I'm happy to announce we will be shifting our focus back to seeing patients in office instead of through remote means. I understand that the phone appointments and fax refills are more convenient for many people but unfortunately they just don't allow the same quality of care that in person visits do. As a result we will be returning to our pre-COVID practices of no fax refills and no phone appointments effective June 13, 2020. We will of course continue our upgraded sanitization procedures and social distancing protocols to maximize the safety of patients and staff alike. Thank you all for your continued support and cooperation throughout these "interesting" times.

I just wanted to let everyone know that we will not be accepting new patients at the clinic for the next little while. We have had a ton of people join the clinic recently and we want to ensure we can meet everyone's needs before we expand the practice any further. Thanks to everyone for your ongoing support, I can't say enough good things about what a wonderful group of patients we have!

I'm happy to announce that our online patient portal will be up and running in the next few days. This will allow for online booking, secure messaging and more. Our staff will be calling everyone to get email addresses so we can send out the registration invite but if you want to speed up the process please email us at [email protected] with your name and email address and we can get you registered that way. Take care and stay safe everyone!

Hi all, Sorry for the lack of updates lately, I haven't shared anything because there hasn't been a whole lot to share on the COVID front. For anyone who wasn't aware the latest data released by public health shows a total of 16 cases in the Leduc/Devon area and another 2 cases in the Beaumont area. Given that we are seeing increasing numbers of cases related to community transmission (aka not just from contact with recent travellers) I implore everyone to stay home wherever... and whenever possible. Our best shot at beating this disease is to let it burn itself out by staying home so it can't infect new people. Not only will this ease the strain on the health system to give those who are infected the best possible odds of survival but it will also mean that we can all get back to "normal" sooner rather than later. Remember that this disease cannot live indefinitely without human hosts so please for goodness sake stop providing new hosts for it and we can beat this thing. To that end we are asking people to delay "routine" medical care (checkups, paps etc) so we can minimize the amount you have to go out. We are still open and seeing those who need it (for all concerns, not just covid) but are trying to use phone/fax/virtual care for most of our refills and other things that don't require me to physically assess you. As always, please stay safe, stay calm and keep washing your hands! See more

Hello all, just wanted to let you know that I am pleased to report our isolation suite is ready to go (an office with a totally separate entrance so patients there don't mix with those in the waiting room). Starting tomorrow anyone with any cold or flu symptoms will be routed through this room instead of the main area to help ensure we remain COVID free. I am also happy to announce that I have got our secure messaging and video care software up and running so we will be able ...to offer virtual appointments to those who want it starting tomorrow. For anyone not feeling terribly tech savy or photogenic I can also do phone consults for most things. Of course anything that requires assessment like new injuries, wart treatments etc will still have to be done in person and I'm always happy to see anyone in person that prefers that (and NO the virtual care will not be a long term option as I cannot provide the same quality of care as I can face-to-face). Take care and enjoy what's left of your weekend! See more

Hi everyone. In light of the increasing incidences of community transmission of the COVID-19 virus we are going to start offering phone and videoconferencing appointments next week (we will still be doing in person appointments too). We are also taking extra precautions to keep everyone with cold and flu type symptoms separated from other patients so we apologize if things run a little slower. If you have any cold/flu symptoms (cough/fever/sore throat) please call the clinic before you come in - we are still happy to see you but we need to be prepared first. All bookings will still be done through our main phone line as usual, if you choose to use one of our alternate visit methods you will be provided with info at that time. Thanks!

I've been seeing a great deal of misinformation and confusion about COVID-19 the last few days so I'd like to take the opportunity to offer some clarity/advice where I can. If you have any questions you would like answered feel free to comment below or send us a message and I'll try to provide answers as soon as I can. Of course I don't have all the answers but thankfully I have a bit more info than most of the public so I'm happy to share. Here's a few tidbits for today: ... 1) Hand hygiene: Despite what the crazy crowds and empty shelves might suggest there is no benefit to using hand sanitizer over normal hand washing. In fact the opposite is true - proper hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds will actually kill the virus more effectively than saturating your hands with sanitizer can. On a related note - please quit trying to make your own sanitizer based upon recipes online etc. I am hearing lots of reports about physicians all over treating way too many chemical burns as a result of these DIY efforts. 2) Home cleaning/sanitation - same basic rule applies here. Any cleaning product with a drug identification number that specifies it is effective against viruses should be effective in sanitizing surfaces. As an alternative a 1:9 solution of bleach:water (1 part bleach to 9 parts water) is considered effective as well. Just as with the hand sanitizer please don't start mixing things together based upon online recipes etc - you can create some serious chemical and fumes that could cause you and your loved ones serious harm. 3) Last one for today - I've had a lot of questions about anti-inflammatories (aka NSAIDs, ibuprofen, alleve, advil, naproxen etc etc). At this point in time we don't have any concrete information as we have no data on this but there have been some reports out of Europe that anti-inflammatory use may be associated with a slightly increased risk of serious complications from COVID-19. Given the lack of evidence we (the medical community) cannot offer any definitive advice but I have been telling patients and loved ones alike that given the seriousness of this situation it's probably a good idea to avoid unnecessary anti-inflammatory use at this time if you can. If you need something for pain relief I would recommend sticking with good old Tylenol or using a topical anti-inflammatory such as Voltaren. Thanks for reading this rather long winded post, hope it helps you navigate all the confusion and craziness we are all dealing with these days. As I mentioned at the top please feel free to message or comment with any questions you would like me to try to answer. Have a great day, stay safe and stay home as much as you can!

One last update today - we now have a set of the "restaurant style" pagers for patients so if the waiting room is at all busy patients will have the option of waiting in their cars until their room is ready. So far this week we haven't had significant problems with a busy waiting room and have had plenty of space to allow everyone to maintain appropriate social distancing but we are prepared in case we need them.

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 25.05.2020

One more small update for today (sorry for the barrage of them) - I have temporarily enabled the messaging feature on our facebook page to allow you to contact us with your questions/concerns. Please DO NOT use this for trying to book appointments or for seeking specific medical advice. This is meant to help answer your general questions around COVID and what is going on at the clinic in this regard. I will endeavour to answer everyone's questions but it might take a little while to respond as things have been rather hectic here to say the least. Thanks and stay safe everyone!

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 19.05.2020

One other quick update for folks - apparently our phone system Is occaisionally giving people a message the customer you have dialed is currently not available, please try your call again later if you get this message just wait a bit and call again, we are still here and answering phones but Telus is having some hiccups with the voip system today.

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 10.05.2020

Quick update for everyone. I have just received a notification that primary care clinics (like us) should no longer be performing COVID testing. This does not mean I wont be testing folks I see in clinic if I think it is neccessary, just that we wont be booking appointments for testing as AHS wants everyone going through their central testing facilities (the closest for us is in South Edmonton, and no, I dont have the address as it is released by 811 directly to callers wh...o need testing). For anyone who thinks they may need testing here is the current protocol: 1) Do the online assessment tool: https://myhealth.alberta.ca//P/COVID-Self-Assessment.aspx 2) If the assessment tool says you may be at risk call 811 to schedule a test (and get the address for the test centre ) 3) Attend the testing centre and get swabbed 4) STAY HOME in self isolation until you receive a call telling you it is safe for you to go out again (or 14 days) The most important thing you can do in this situation is stay home so you dont infect others. If you require medical care etc while in self isolation feel free to call the clinic and we will make arrangements (just dont expect to immediately talk to me etc, as you can imagine things are pretty busy right now)

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 23.04.2020

I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the online self-assessment tool AHS has launched to help people determine if they need screening for COVID-19. If you have cold/flu symptoms and are concerned you may need testing please go to: https://myhealth.alberta.ca//Pa/COVID-Self-Assessment.aspx This tool will help you determine if you need to call 811 for testing or if you should just stay home and self isolate. At this point in time we are also offering testing at t...he clinic (NOT during regular clinic hours though) but we still recommend using the assessment tool as a starting point. I will continue to post updates with more details as they become available. In the meantime we are sanitizing the clinic on a greatly enhanced schedule and are also preparing contingency plans to ensure we can continue to serve our patients if things get worse.

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 03.04.2020

While I don't have any new information to share regarding COVID-19 at this time I would like to reiterate to everyone that the clinic is open for business as usual. We are undertaking extensive non-stop sanitization procedures and are happy to report that at this time there is no reason for patients to avoid coming in for appointments. If this changes we will be sure to let you know and will keep you updated in general as more information comes in. Take care!

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 24.03.2020

With the spread if COVID-19 in Alberta many of you are wondering when/if you should be tested. At this time AHS does not recommend screening asymptomatic patients. IF you have cold/flu symptoms and have recently traveled out of country or been around a sick person who has been then you fit the current testing criteria. Testing is being offered through most family doctors in the community although it is recommended you see your normal doctor as testing supplies are distributed... based upon each clinic's normal patient population. To ensure the safety of all our patients and minimize infection spread we will be conducting all testing following the end of our regular clinic each day. This way we can sanitize everything between possible infected patients and our more vulnerable community members. I will continue to post updates as the situation evolves, at this point please remember the most important things you can do are wash your hands and stay calm. See more

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 21.03.2020

With the latest coronavirus cases announced here in Alberta we've had a great many calls and inquiries regarding the virus and when to get screened etc. At this point in time there is no recommendation for routine screening for the general population. Here are the current guidelines from Alberta Health: If you have symptoms such as fever, cough and difficulty breathing and have travelled outside Canada or have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, stay home and call Healt...h Link 811. If you are not seriously ill, do not go to a physicians office, a health care facility or a lab without consulting with Health Link 811 first. Call 911 if you are seriously ill and need immediate medical attention and inform them that you may have COVID-19. For the most up to date information please check the AHS COVID website: http://www.ahs.ca/covid We would like to reiterate that at this point in time the risk of catching this illness in Alberta is still very low and the majority of patients who do contract COVID-19 only have a mild illness. To give you a frame of reference the seasonal influenza virus has affected 7,173 Albertans this season and resulted in 34 deaths. At this point the best advice to take away from this is stay calm, use common sense, wash your hands (and for goodness's sake quit stockpiling toilet paper )!

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 18.03.2020

Im sure many of you have seen the news coverage regarding the upcoming changes by Alberta Health to physician compensation. As a general rule I make a point of not engaging in any political discussions etc because I treat patients from all walks of life and I have no desire to alienate anyone due to political disagreements. However in the last week or two we have had several patients and families call or drop by to ask more about what is happening and what they can do about it. To that end I thought Id share this really well written article that explains what is happening and offers suggestions for those who want to help. Thanks to all of you who have reached out, it is a big morale booster for myself and the entire team! https://wildeandrandom.wordpress.com//incompetence-and-c/

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 29.02.2020

We are happy to announce that we will be accepting a limited number of new patients starting March 1, 2020. As always we cannot take patients who currently have a family physician in the Leduc/Beaumont/Devon areas. Please call the clinic during regular office hours to schedule a first visit.

Thank you as always to our wonderful community for the strong support!

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 18.01.2020

Please be advised that Dr. Taylor will be out of the office the week of August 19 - 23. If you are running low on meds please book your appointment for refills before then. As always we will still have staff on hand to take your calls etc. Thanks!

From everyone at Taylor Family Medical Clinic we would like to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season! We will be closed for the holiday from December 22 to January 1 (reopening January 2) but the emergency pager will be active during this time. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful year and we look forward to an even better one in 2019!

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 17.12.2019

I don't usually share things on our clinic site but this article really struck a chord, particularly after a day where we seemed to have more serious issues than average and thus were backed up waaay longer than we aim for! Thankfully I am not an oncologist and don't have to deal with cancer and other grave illnesses on a daily basis but the principal still holds true - when I run late it is because I try to spend the time it takes to treat each patient, whether that is five minutes or an hour. https://www.theguardian.com//patience-in-the-waiting-room-

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 06.12.2019

Wow! Yesterday marked our official one year anniversary! What a year it has been. The staff and I have to extend a huge thanks to all of our patients for entrusting us with your healthcare and putting up with the occasional hiccups and glitches that come with the launch of any new enterprise. We are all very happy with the friendly, welcoming environment we strive to create and we hope you feel the same!

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 27.11.2019

Merry Christmas to all of our patients, friends, and families from the entire Taylor Family Medical Clinic team. We will be closed from December 23 - January 1 inclusive for the holidays. Please feel free to call the clinic to hear options for urgent care needs during our closure. We look forward to seeing you again in the new year!

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 25.11.2019

Just an FYI for all of the folks who are looking for a new doctor and wondering if we are still taking new patients: Yes we are taking new patients but only folks who do not already have a family doctor within our area (Leduc/Beaumont/Devon). The only exception to this is immediate family members of existing patients. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause those of you who are seeking to change physicians but we are trying to ensure that those who are in the highest need (no doctor) get help first.

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 13.11.2019

Please be advised that we will be closed Friday November 11 in observance of the Remembrance Day holiday. In an effort to give our staff a well deserved rest we will also be closed on the following Monday (November 14).

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 24.10.2019

Happy Halloween from all of us at Taylor Family Medical!

Flu Season is Here Have You Vaccinated Yet? Yes folks its that time of year the first cases of influenza are beginning to appear in our community and that means its time for Alberta Healths annual campaign to encourage everyone to get their flu vaccine. As a family doc I often get asked a few key questions about the vaccines and the campaign so I thought Id share them with you here: Q: Do you recommend getting vaccinated?...Continue reading

Taylor Family Medical Clinic 04.10.2019

A few quick answers to some common questions we've been getting: 1. Is there really a new female doctor in town? Yes Dr. Taylor is a female doctor (and yes she is the only doctor working in the clinic)... 2. Can I become a patient? How? Yes we are still taking new patients - to become a new patient just give us a call and our awesome front desk team will tell you everything you need to know 3. When do you open? Our official opening date is February 1st but we are taking a few bookings on Thursday January 28th and our office and phone lines are already open and taking bookings now. 4. Where the heck are you located? We are in the Clocktower Mall just behind the A&W on 50th street in Leduc. The signage is supposed to be going up any day now but in the meantime you can look for us tucked between Mirror Mirror and MaidPros - just down from Edible Arrangements. There is a small sign on the door while we wait for the big signs to arrive! 5. What are your hours? The doctor's hours vary a bit from day to day but our office and phonelines are open Monday to Friday 8:00 to 4:00 6. Hooray! I've booked my first appointment! Anything I need to bring? Please bring your Alberta Health Card with you to make registering easier. We do advise coming about 10 minutes early for your first appointment as we have a bunch of paperwork we'd like you to fill out so we get all of your past medical history etc that we need. 7. What is your website? Sorry... Like all new ventures we have a lot on our plates right now so the website is still a work in progress. We like to think that the personal touch is more important so we ask that you give us a call and we can answer all of your questions directly while we wait for the technical wizards to do their magic.
