Music and the Brain: The Benefits of Music A 2016 study at the University of Southern California’s Brain and Creativity Institute found that musical experiences in childhood can actually accelerate brain development, particularly in the areas of language acquisition and reading skills. According to the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation (NAMM Foundation), learning to play an instrument can improve mathematical learning and even increase SAT scores.
Another great benefit of music is that it Improves memory. Research has shown that the repetitive elements of rhythm and melody help our brains form patterns that enhance memory. In a study of stroke survivors, listening to music helped them experience more verbal memory, less confusion, and better focused attention.
Benefit #2 - Reduces stress. Listening to ‘relaxing’ music (generally considered to have slow tempo, low pitch, and no lyrics) has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety in healthy people and in people undergoing medical procedures (e.g., surgery, dental, colonoscopy). Mom...are you listening to music while you are recovering??
Did you know that music has all sorts of health benefits? 1. Improves mood. Studies show that listening to music can benefit overall well-being, help regulate emotions, and create happiness and relaxation in everyday life. What sort of music are YOU listening to or playing that helps you to relax?
Did you know...that many people believe they are tone deaf? This may not actually be true in most cases. Being truly tone deaf simply means that you have an inability to perceive musical pitch accurately therefore you may speak in a monotone. You may have been told by others that you sing out of key or you do not like the quality of your singing voice. Did you know...that if you can pass a basic pitch sensitivity test your can "cure" your "tone deafness" and can learn to sing in tune! I can help you with singing ear training (with regular practice) to improver your ability to accurately sing the notes you hear in your head to help you sing in tune! As I like to tell all my students...YES YOU CAN!
To protect each other, please be advised that Covid 19 precautions are being taken as we start back to lessons next week. All students and parents are asked to wear masks. Hand sanitizer will be provided and all surfaces will be wiped down with Lysol between students. Guitar students are asked to bring your own guitar please. Keyboards will be wiped with lysol also.
What is your best on stage performance story? Do you have a funny, embarrassing, great, or inspiring story to share?
This a post directed to any students past or present that have studied with me. I am doing a power point presentation and need your help please. I am looking for short video clips to include in my presentation, possibly my website too. (learning how to do that too!) How have I been able to help you? Have I helped you overcome insecurities? Have you learned differently with me than perhaps other teachers? If so, what was different? Have I helped you find direction in life or... perhaps pass on my love of music to you? Any short videos or quotes that could be used for my presentation would be most appreciated. Do you still love to sing or play? Have you passed down your skills to your children? Did I help you learn how to interact with your babies in our Tykes and Tots classes? If you have a moment, this would mean alot to me. I would love to hear from you! See more
Notice that Taylor Music Studios will reopen on September 8, 2020! Have a great rest of your summer and see you soon. If you are looking to reserve lesson times for September, please message me. I look forward to hearing from you.
