Dear parents and guardians, like Halloween, this year Christmas will look a little different, however, we're still going to make the most of it! Please note som...e of the changes to our usual Christmas festivities. These considerations have been made in conjunction with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. There will only be classroom cohort celebrations. Please do not send any homemade treats to be shared. Family treats will not be permitted for distribution however, individuals may pack their own treats for a snack for their child.

Today is World Teachers Day!! Thank you to all of our amazing teachers for everything that you do for our students everyday. It’s been said at least 10,000 tim...es before that these are not ordinary times - yet you have stepped up and have been doing an extraordinary job!! Although our students may be worried about the unsafe world we live in, they know they can find care and safety when they are with you. Thank you for persevering while we were forced to go online, and for continuing to adapt your teaching style to meet the needs of social distancing. You are making history!! Years from now our students may not remember what they were taught by you but they will certainly remember how much you cared. - New COVID-19 Assessment Centre - Today with our friends from Lakehead Public Schools, we were part of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre announce...ment of a new COVID-19 Assessment Centre, located at Confederation College. Testing will be available beginning Monday, October 5th. This development was made possible through collaboration with Confederation College, Thunder Bay District Health Unit, Superior North EMS HQ, CSDC des Aurores boréales, Matawa Education Centre, Northern Nishnawbe Education Council, and Keewaytinook Okimakanak Board of Education. Both Directors Tassone and MacRae expressed their appreciation for this new Assessment Centre: "The additional Assessment Centre will provide a further layer of safety for our students, but it will also play a vital role for our parents, guardians, Bus Drivers, Educators and Board staff. Not only will this assist in improving attendance for our learners, it will expedite testing wait times for staff, ensuring a safe return to work...so that they can be reunited with the ones who depend on them." - Pino Tassone "I understand the pressures parents and guardians face when their child is feeling unwell. Going home sick has taken on a whole new meaning this year and I am thankful for an additional assessment centre to help expedite testing. This support to our educational community will inevitably ease the minds of students, parents, guardians and staff and contribute significantly to student success and well being." - Ian MacRae The COVID-19 Assessment Centre site at Confederation College is available ONLY to symptomatic students, parents or siblings, teachers, and other school personnel such as bus drivers. Located in Confederation College’s Sibley Hall Residence Activity Room, this Assessment Centre site is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am 5:00 pm and serves 150 clients per day. Those visiting this Assessment Centre should access it via the College’s William St. (east) entrance. Thank you to everyone who made this new Assessment Centre possible for our school communities.

Well we have finished our first full week back at school under our new normal procedures and protocols. Parents, I would like all of you to know how wonderful ...your children have been adjusting to our new normal. They have done a tremendous job of wearing their masks in class, doing their best to social distance, following the flow of traffic, making up new games while playing in their zones, and sanitizing their hands frequently! Our end of day dismissal is now much smoother and safer as well. We are so proud of how respectful all the students have been and how hard they have been trying to remember our new rules to keep themselves and others safe. Starting on Monday we will begin our breakfast program. Our grab and go breakfast will include individually wrapped or pre-packaged items such as yogurt tubes, fruit, cheese strings, granola bars and dry cereal. See more
