As the mechanical contractor for this staff accommodation building in Banff AB we got an extra to install radiant heat pex lines in all the form work to cure the concrete without the costly expense of forced air heaters and tarps. With a 70% efficiency 1000k BTU boiler we saw surface temperatures of 7C in -10c ambient temperature and saw 30% less propane burned then estimated. By next winter we will have our first portable condensing 95% efficiency construction temp heat units that will provide 1.5 million BTU/H for a wide range of uses. What a humbling last few days it’s been. We, like nearly all Albertans have been forced to adapt and overcome or sink. I have made the choice to take our 3/4 commercial construction 1/4 residential service and construction business and go flat out residential HVAC-R and plumbing service and installation.
