At 2:23 pm (approximately 1 hours after the missing report had been filed), Duke the Police Service Dog and his handler Cpl. Cam Long located the child safe and uninjured. "Missing children files are the absolute top priority for police. It was so helpful to have concerned neighbours checking their yards and parking spots and sharing this news on social media," says Whitehorse RCMP Detachment Commander Inspector Lindsay Ellis. "I know that a lot of people wanted to immediately join the search in the neighbourhood, but allowing the Police Dog Services to efficiently complete their initial track and preserving the area for YSAR search teams meant that we were able to follow best practices for missing person investigations and locate this child." Read the full story on the Yukon Search and Rescue profile. A reminder of our 4 rules to keeping children safe are to: TELL AN ADULT WHERE YOU ARE GOING. IF YOU ARE LOST, HUG-A-TREE AND STAY PUT. KEEP WARM AND DRY HELP SEARCHERS FIND YOU BY ANSWERING THEIR CALLS. A search and rescue dog is sometimes used to help with the search. To alert the search team, it might bark loudly if it finds you. Don’t be afraid of the dog barking. The dog, along with searchers are there to help find you. Cam Long a localisé l'enfant sain et sauf.
