Rent Subsidy: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced a new rent subsidy program to help businesses forced to shut down due to the global pandemic, as som...e provinces begin to lay out plans to reopen their economies. The rent relief plan, to be funded jointly with the provinces, will provide non-repayable loans to commercial property owners to cover 50 per cent of rent payments for April, May and June. The loans will be forgiven if the property owner agrees to cut the rent by at least 75 per cent for those months and promises not to evict the tenant. The small business tenant must cover the remaining portion of the rent, which would be up to 25 per cent. To qualify, small business tenants must pay less than $50,000 a month in rent. They also must have experienced a revenue decline of at least 70 per cent from pre-COVID-19 levels, or they must have been forced to close down because of pandemic restrictions. Non-profit and charitable organizations are also eligible.

CERB FOR STUDENTS; Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is unveiling a $9 billion emergency program aimed at students. It includes a Canada Emergency Student Benefit worth at least $1250 a month from May to August. The benefit can be accessed by those in post-secondary school now, headed to post secondary school in September or anyone who graduated after December 2019. The government is also creating 76,000 job placements for young people in sectors currently dealing with labour shortages. The Canada Emergency Student Benefit will give students $1,250 a month from May to August, $1,750 if the student is supporting someone or living with a disability.

Soaring new Toronto condo building will be the tallest in Canada It's official: The long-rumoured, 95-storey-tall residential tower at the base of Yonge Street in downtown Toronto is a go. Get ready to crane those necks. Pinnacle International announced the news with a press release on Wednesday, confirming not only that they'd finally be proceeding with phase two of the One Yonge development, but that their monster tower has a name: SkyTower.... "Just when you thought the Toronto condo market couldn't possibly reach new heights, Pinnacle International announces the next phase of its Pinnacle One Yonge development, and with it, details of the country's tallest residential condominium tower," reads the release. "SkyTower, is the second of three tall towers at Pinnacle One Yonge, and its launch follows the release of The Prestige, a 65-storey condominium tower that launched last year, is now under construction." Designed by the award-winning, Toronto-based architectural practice Hariri Pontarini, SkyTower is set to rise a whopping 95 storeys high, as mentioned.
