I have two openings tomorrow! 12:30 and 6pm (rare evening appointment available) Who wants one?

A reminder to keep our space safe: we are still asking clients to stay in their car until their practitioner is at the door to greet them. I understand it is getting cold out so it is best to be as close to your appointment time as you can. I ask that even if the door is unlocked to wait for your practitioner as we are trying to limit the amount of people in the clinic at a time. Don't worry, none of us at the Healing Station will forget about you! We may be finishing cleaning or on the phone etc.

Little light hearted humour in the clinic. To those who aren’t aware, we have free masks if you happen to show up to your appointment forgetting yours.

Ever had your back suddenly seize up on you when you bent a certain way or tried to stand up? This sudden grabbing is most commonly caused by a loss of stabilit...y. For a number of potential reasons, your body may not be stabilizing well in a given position or when performing a particular motion and that causes the muscles to suddenly contract HARD to add support. It's often the deeper, tonic muscles of the core that aren't engaging well. The spasm itself can be intense enough to create muscle strain and injury. See more

With all the mask-wearing happening these days, breathing patterns are suffering. With the additional effort to breathe, as minimal as it may be, we can expect ...increased recruitment of accessory muscles of respiration such as the scalenes in the neck. Sitting right between the anterior and middle scalene on each side sits a network of nerves known as the brachial plexus. If the scalenes get overused enough, the added tension can compress and entrap the brachial plexus, possibly even becoming adhered. This can result in pain and weakness of the upper extremities. To help maintain the freedom of motion of the brachial plexus, nerve glides can be useful. Give these a try: https://tbme.ch/1Bq9 See more

I'm taking this time of isolation to refresh on some anatomy and add to my tool box of home care for all you lovely people. What better way to learn and understand the impact things have on the body then to practice what we preach! Therapists can sometimes forget or neglect to practice home care when we know how important it is for the long run of feeling better. Without having anyone else to practice on, I've got myself! I am very excited to share some new modalities I have been learning that I can include in your treatments as well.
