When I finished my 200hr YTT I was passionate about yoga and wanted to make a difference in the world. The problem was I didn’t know where to start or how to decide who and what to teach. Not to mention that everywhere I looked was another yoga teacher trying to get their teaching career going. I thought, who would want to learn from me?... What I didn't realize is I could have reached out to someone in the yoga industry to help mentor me and to show me where to start. Over a decade later, I want to share what I have learned with you. Confessions of a yoga teacher: 1. I think yoga mats are stupid. And overpriced. 2. The word guru creeps me out. 3. More people should practice savasana instead of downward dog. ... 4. I don’t wear real jeans (they’re called jeggings, okay?) 5. My favourite teaching moments are when a student teaches me something. 6. Hot yoga smells really bad. Or is it because of what my students consumed the night before? 7. I’d trade a flexible body for a flexible mind any day. 8. I eat pizza (twice this week ) And cookies. And they’re not gluten-free. 9. I sometimes wake up at 3am and realize I forgot a pose on one side in the class I taught the night before. 10. I am human, just like you! What are your confessions?

Today marks the Winter Solstice (also known as the shortest day of the year) for those of us in the northern hemisphere. During this time we may feel an inclination to do less and find more stillness. Unfortunately, this also happens to be the busiest time of year for many of us. We fight against our natural urge to hibernate and instead go to parties, shop for hours and run around like chickens with our heads cut off. This day is a time to acknowledge the darkness in our liv...es. It is in the dark that we see ourselves clearly. Through darkness our vision may be obscured but our other senses become heightened. As we work through our darkness we can help others with theirs. Give yourself space to reflect and honour this natural cycle so you can be ready for the increasing light as we head into the New Year. #wintersolstice2020 #wintersolstice

You need to learn more than how to teach yoga to run a yoga business. And if you want to teach yoga (even part-time), make no mistake, you will be running a business. Every job has a different set of soft skills. For yoga teachers these include business planning, time management, online communication, networking, marketing, budgeting, accounting, and more.
