This article on IUU fishing in the Conversation unfortunately gets it wrong. Illegal fishing is in and of itself a form of transnational organized crime. Illegal fishing operations are highly coordinated criminal activities that are transnational in nature. IUU fishing meets UN and EU definitions of organized crime, and understanding IUU fishing as organized crime is critical for effectively combating this threat to our oceans....
