Saturday evening we got a call saying lungs anytime in the next two days... by 10pm we received a call saying come get ready for lungs! We got ready and headed for Toronto General arriving around 2am. Tino passed the ECG, bloodwork and chest X-ray in preparation for lungs. As far as his side of things go - we are ready ! ... 4pm Sunday afternoon we learned they were going to cancel the surgery. This is something we have prepared ourselves for, this is called a ‘false call’. Meaning the lungs weren’t upto the standards of the transplant team. That’s okay because as the team phrased it ‘we want you to have a Lamborghini not a sunfire’ so that the lungs and Tino have the best chance of success possible. Instead of being disappointed we were grateful. Grateful to know that no matter when we do get the call again Tino will be ready. We learned from this process what to expect when surgery does happen and we will better prepare ourselves for the process. So now we wait, for another call that will surely come and we pray for the families who are losing a loved one so that ours can live. We are so thankful for all of the support from our friends who have become family and every single person who’s taken the time to encourage and support us on this journey Tino Spatola you are the strongest man I know and I’m so happy to be by your side

This journey we are on is not for the faint of heart. We persevere through the emotional roller coaster this journey brings with it on a daily basis. We can go anywhere from being upset over doctors miscommunications, to confusion over doctors orders that don’t make sense, frustration over living and dealing with problems when the situation appeared to be ‘easier’ but turned out to be a shit show. The anxiety and anticipation of waiting for a phone call for new lungs, while p...reparing yourself for false calls and all the while ensuring the kids have someone to care for them while you have to be away. Learning how to trust the journey your on and the people who help you along the way. Knowing not everyone is going to be along with you to see you to the end. Losing friends and family because they simply cannot fathom the process of this lengthy journey. Watching my husband be strong for us despite the fact that he’s breaking inside too. To having us all crumble together and end up in a family group hug just crying together. No one could have prepared us for having to worry about rent in two places. Having to make the decision of who to trust your children with, knowing that even if they are the most amazing babysitters in the world - they aren’t you. no matter the length of time away from the kids, as we are missing them, they are without their parents love and guidance daily. No one could have prepared us for having to choose to pull the kids out of school early to make life easier on everyone. The school trips my kids have missed, the summer activities you have to tell the kids they can’t participate in as you simply cannot plan for anything right now. The worry of not having enough money to make ends meet. The worry of not working anymore and knowing there’s no point in even looking for a job because the chaos that is our lives would surely pull me away from work and back home more often than not. No one could have prepared us for how difficult, exhausting, frustrating, sad, happy, anxious and wonderful this journey was going to be. But when we are wearing thin I find myself looking up and out at all of you. Every stranger who took the time to say hello, to encourage us, to support us. Every single person who donated to our GoFundMe or bought water bottles or mugs to support us. Every single dollar has helped to secure us financially and made breathing just a little bit easier. Every single friend who have become family along this journey I’m so grateful for each and every one of you. We aren’t there yet. We’re still riding this roller coaster everyday, We are in this together and it’s only with your support that we have been able to keep moving forward So for now, we smile through the tears and enjoy the good days as if each one is the last. We work hard, we love hard and we will keep moving forward one step at a time, one day at a time ! #betterdaysarecoming #countyourblessings #kindnesscostsnothing #grateful
