This week, we discuss engagement. As in how to keep your customers engaged. Your employees engaged. And YOU engaged. This is a 5-part series. Today we disc...uss part 3 - engagement with VIDEO. Why video today? Because we started small. Comfortable with something that we have done for most of our lives. Making phone calls. Then we went to email. A little more scalable, but as you saw, only about 30% of people actually open - and that’s a great open rate! It’s way less personal. Why video? Why now? Let's talk about it... It’s October, 2020. Video has made a larger impact this year than ever before. And greater than ever expected. The reality is - if you are NOT USING VIDEO, you are losing customers to those that are. Let’s review a few statistics on video: 78% people watch video online each week, and 55% watch video every day. 72% of consumers prefer learning about a product by watching video. 82% of businesses use video in their marketing strategy. Up from 61% in 2019. Are you in this? 59% of executives prefer watching a video than reading text content. 65% of senior executives visited a website related to a video they have watched. I can go on and on. Video is impactful. We can all admit that. But why? And how do you use it? Simple, we think in stories. We watch for a loop to open and then for it to close. Video allows us to get inside the message. To see ourselves saying. Doing. Being what is exercising multiple senses. We get closer to a video than to text. The more senses you can stimulate in a conversation, the more engaged your message recipient becomes. Think of how Disney does things. Walt had it right when talking about moving pictures. Movies. Videos. Rides at his parks. Engagement through senses. And now more than ever. COVID has pushed people to become used to watching video. For work. For entertainment. For research and more than ever to introduce them to a business. Either what pizza to order or how a product or service answers a challenge they may or may not have known exists when they pushed play. We have become attracted and in many instances addicted to gaining content via video. We also trained future generations that this is the way to consume at least based on how tech is used now. There are 4 types of videos you will generally find gets the most attention online. 1. News and trending topics. 2. Stories that evoke emotion. 3. Videos that teach something. 4. Behind the scenes peeks. So what does all this mean to you? It means you should pull out your phone and shoot a video. Post it online and measure engagement against others. Use one of the four types. Here’s the secret to it all. It’s okay to not be good at this. Just do it. The more you do it, the better you get. And the more people will tell you hey, I saw your video. Thanks for the information.
