This is the balloon we recovered today! It didn’t make it to Europe on the first try, but we’ll put it back up so it can continue its journey around the globe.
On June 1st Magnitude.io had a balloon race with Lodi Unified School District and three balloons. Using APRS amateur radio we could track them as they traveled ...across the sky during the day. Days later, Liam's balloon won the race. It was the only verifiable landing where we thought we could recover. We contacted the Radio Amateurs of Canada (https://www.rac.ca/) and they said they'd trek out to try and recover it as it was still beaconing. In Nova Scotia heavily wooded areas, lakes, and bears are an issue in the wilderness. This morning they recovered it! It will be refurbished and flown again in the second leg of the mission with the Annapolis Royal Space Agency. Liam Kennedy, Tony So, Bill Brown, Joanne Cozens Michael, Steve Potter, Trevor Macduff
It was launched in Los Angeles a few days ago, made its way across the continent, and landed 150Km from the Annapolis Royal Space Agency. Of course we will go and get it for you! The Annapolis Valley Amateur Radio Club got the call via their network of ham radio operators, and we helped retrieve this package from the shores of Burnaby Lake this morning. It is still in perfect condition, and we will re-launch this back into the sky soon for it to continue its way around the globe.
Check out the Facebook page for the Annapolis Innovation Lab. Some great stuff going on there, and everything is free to use! Please like and share the new page, and watch for events going on at the Lab.

Here is the video footage from this year!
Here is some video from the moment the balloon burst at 32,794m altitude...all is calm until 10 seconds into the video when the balloon, having stretched to over 10m diameter cannot hold any longer. We then fell over 2000m in one minute, landing 50 minutes later near Lamb's Lake. Note the thin layer of atmosphere keeping us all alive!

Yea ~ SUCCESS!!! CONGRATULATIONS to the Annapolis Royal Space Agency for another successful launch and new altitude record of over 32,700m! The space balloon ...landed in a tree very close to where they predicted, and it was even seen overhead at 11 am on its way down. TERRIFIC job by everyone at ARSA, and special thanks to Town Crier Peter Davies and the great folks in the Annapolis Valley Amateur Radio Club. Don't forget to stop by ARTsPLACE and ARCAC from 1-3 pm on Sunday, June 23, for the Opening of TO THE MOON & BACK. Never a dull moment around here! :-) www.ExploreAnnapolisRoyal.com See more
