While we wish we could drink the top wines of Bordeaux all the time, unfortunately between our finances, and the scarcity of these premium priced wines prevents that from being a reality. In the meantime, we find nothing pairs better with maxed out credit cards than the tremendous value offered by some of the second wines made by these producers. One example; La Chapelle La Mission Haut-Brion (worth about 20% of what La Mission Haut-Brion regularly sells for), is made with the younger vines and second picks from this world-class vineyard. While we love wine of all colours, countries, and grapes, Teatro has always been most enchanted by the wines of Bordeaux. Bought in large lots en primeur each year, we have over 5000 bottles of just Bordeaux, with wines from this region going back to the mid 90s. While some of these bottles are worth an absolute fortune (looking at you Cheval Blanc!), we also offer a range of great value wines from this region. Join our Sommelier, Taylor Simpson, for a socially distanced tasting of the 2015 Vintage, with a focus on the more budget conscious side of Bordeaux. Wrapping up our September series of #WineWednesdays is the 2009 Arpepe Grumello Riserva When talking about the Italian grape Nebbiolo, we typically think of the regions of Barolo and Barbaresco as being the most important. While those regions are outstanding, it is important to not overlook the greatness of Valtellina, nestled in the foothills of the Italian Alps. Locally Nebbiolo is known as Chiavennasca, and the examples from this cool climate tend to be softer and prettier than the wines of Barolo. Just when our sommelier was absolutely certain we simply couldn’t carry another producer of White Burgundy, no matter how fine, he was introduced to PYCM, and space had to be made. Based out of Chassange-Montrachet, Pierre-Yves makes incredibly captivating Chardonnays. While we carry no less than a half dozen of his wines, ranging vastly in vineyard site and price point, what unites them all is purity of terroir and fruit, spurred by modest oak use and simple winemaking.
