MES As with any ERP system, timing of data entry is critically important. These advanced systems work better and provide more accurate and usable information when you tell the system what you are doing, when you are doing it. Often, in implementations, the manufacturing side of ERP solution gets lost or takes a backseat to more pressing needs. Change is hard. Lack of training, patterns of behavior and the old ways of doing things in the past mask us from seeing more effic...ient options in the new ERP systems. One example would be recording time against a manufactured part. Many companies would use time cards for their production employees to track their operational activities. They in turn would hand in these cards only to have someone else enter the time, either at the end of the day or the next day. Sometimes this could be delayed for two days or even longer depending on operational processes or the locations of the process in relation to where the time tracking occurs. Many additional timing errors, in the system data, relate to how the raw material is handled. Historically a supervisor or office employee might issue the material at a time when the material is either still in stock or well after it had already been consumed. This causes problems If you have finished the product, and your ERP system does not know, it will keep scheduling time for you to complete the job. It will continue to appear on the scheduling boards. Sales and production managers won’t be able to see what is finished or have any visual indication as to what stag the jobs are at. Your Finished Goods Inventory and WIP are never accurate. The simplest solution for this is to use the Manufacturing Execution System and have your production team provide their activity feedback in real time. MES stations allow the employees to log in and out of job operations, complete job quantities and issue material as they pick or consume it. Your problems are solved! Why would you pay someone to enter the production teams time and activities and continue to cause system timing issues, when you can streamline the process and have real time data collection?
