Tech Tip Tuesday Security or ease of use? Part 1! A common and preventable security issue that I would say half of users fail to do anything about is a vulnerability when saving passwords and form data in google chrome. This vulnerability affects Windows users not using user account passwords. Identify this vulnerability by answering these questions. ... 1. When you login to websites, do you find that the password is saved and you can auto-login? 2. Do you need to login to Windows by using a password? 3. Are the sites that allow you to login financial institutions or Webmail sites? Sites like Amazon, Bank sites, Outlook.com, yahoo or credit card companies? If you answered yes to these questions you are probably at risk and here is why. Most hacking doesnt come from some guys in a basement typing in code like hes entering the matrix. Most Hacking is a result of user error or from someone that has local access to your devices. What can be done? First clear your browser data This will remove everything you have saved. 1. On your computer, open Chrome. 2. At the top right, click More. 3. Click More tools Clear browsing data. 4. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time. 5. Click on the advanced tab. 6. Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," and Passwords and other sign in data check the boxes. 7. Click Clear data. Do you have a lot of sign ins and would really prefer ease of use over security well then you must have windows login password! This will force the user the to type in a password when they want to reveal the passwords hidden in google chrome. Tech Tip Tuesday!! Ever get a Pop-up Advertisement telling you, you need to call Microsoft or support? Know its a scam but you dont know how to get ride of it?... Here are a few steps that you can take to stop the POP up! On your keyboard hit Alt + F4 this will close the active window note: you will need to have the pop up window in question as the active window for this to work. If that didnt close the window then try hitting ctrl + alt + del this will lock your computer screen and bring up and additional window that will allow you to open the Task Manager Once you have the task manager open. Click on the Applications Tab you should then see all the programs you have open. Close any internet browser windows you see. Note: You will see a description of whats running on the browser which will be a hint when choosing what to close. Restart the computer. If traditional methods to restart dont work hit ctrl + alt + del on your keyboard, the lock screen area will appear. You can reboot from there. If all else fails either Pull the power or hold the power button down on your computer to turn it off. Reboot after its been unplugged for 30 seconds and try again. Once youve tried all these steps if you have successfully stopped the windows then re-open your browser and try surfing the internet again. Remember the site you were on and try to avoid going to that site or at least that area of the website again. If you cant close the windows or reboot, dont call the number it is fake or if the pop-up window happens again. Its probably time to call someone that can cleanup your computer.
