What is MERVE Raiting on the Air Filters ? Minimum efficiency reporting value Read in another language... Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, commonly known as MERV rating, is a measurement scale designed in 1987 by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to rate the effectiveness of air filters. The scale "represents a quantum leap in the precision and accuracy of air-cleaner ratings"[1] and allows for improved health, reduced cost and energy efficiency in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) design. For example, a HEPA filter is often impractical in central HVAC systems due to the large pressure drop the dense filter material causes. Experiments indicate that less obstructive, medium-efficiency filters of MERV 7 to 13 are almost as effective as true HEPA filters at removing allergens, with much lower associated system and operating costs.[2] The scale is designed to represent the worst-case performance of a filter when dealing with particles in the range of 0.3 to 10 micrometers. The MERV rating is from 1 to 16. Higher MERV ratings correspond to a greater percentage of particles captured on each pass, with a MERV 16 filter capturing more than 95% of particles over the full range. Below is a table grouping MERV ratings by particle size:

STATIC PRESSURE WHAT IS IT AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Static pressure is one of the most important factors in HVAC design. Simply put, static pressure refers to the resistance to airflow in a heating and cooling system’s components and duct work. The push of the air must be greater than the resistance to the flow or no air will circulate through the ducts. DON’T GET TOO TECHNICAL...Continue reading

The Benefits of a Tune-Up Having a furnace tune-up or other heating system tune-ups is the smartest thing you can do to guarantee a worry-free, warm and energy efficient home during the cold winter months. Regular preventive maintenance will also help eliminate potential costly repairs and add years of life to your heating system. Over half of service calls for HVAC repair are due to the lack of regular maintenance. Tune-ups take about an hour to complete, and service technic...ians have an extensive checkpoint list of items to check and tasks to perform. Here’s a list of some of the things that are done during a tune-up: -Test airflow for carbon monoxide -Test ignition system for safe and proper operation -Lubricate and clean blower motor air vents -Test safety and control circuits for proper operation -Measure temperature differences for supply and return registers -Brush, clean and blowout heat exchanger and burner -Lubricate all moving parts -Clean upper and lower combustion vents -Test for natural gas leaks Tighten and inspect all electrical wiring For more information please check our website or call us at 604-789-7699.
