Our racers are still competing in this changed environment, though in a much different format. E-racing still requires them to push themselves to the limits and allows them to compete against both locals and international competitors. One of our Masters racers, James Eaton, hit the virtual roads of Zwift last weekend in a race organized by the Ontario Cycling Association. He was invited to co-narrate race footage afterwards by Abe Oudshoorn from Epic Sports Performance Team... (https://www.epicsportsperformance.ca). They discussed the new strategies & tactics required for racing online, experiences with the O-cups in 2019, and other racing topics. Their banter gives good insight into the fun (and challenges) of e-racing. Many things remain the same while racing online specifically nutrition and maintenance (do not forget maintenance, as this race demonstrates!) For those, we are lucky to have the support of Hammer Nutrition Canada and Spoke O'Motion (psstJames, you might want to give them a callI hear they might be able to help you out). A huge thanks to them for being there for us! And of course a huge shout out to Techy Kids for being the key reason we’re all here racing together (virtually today, road again in the future!) https://youtu.be/VJIICmcGE3s
Good day TechyKids Cycling friends ... I have completed the #CRUSHCOVID 24 hour virtual ride. Big thanks to the support and cheers from the cycling community and friends, including a strong contingent from Spoke O'Motion. I had initially targeted to ride 565km (equal to the distance from home to Niagara Falls and back; twice ... a goal my non-cycling supporters can relate to), but decided to ride on, feeding off the infectious energy of other ride participants to log 850km. ... As with any physical activity, calorie out needs to be replaced with calories in; my Hammer Nutrition Canada supplements was a big part of replacing the 13312 calories expended. During the last hour, I felt an incredible amount of relief as the ride minutes counted down. At the end, I was tired, but the extreme body fatigue did not set in until an hour later. My muscles tightened up, heart rate still slightly above normal resting rate, my tush bruised. Walking and going up/down stairs will be uncomfortable for a couple of day; I am truly broken. From a sporting perspective, the event also produced an incredible athletic performance by Travis Samuel. Travis set out and accomplished the feat of breaking the 24 hour distance record, now set at 1007km. Having ridden with Travis for the majority of my ride, providing whatever support I can, it was a thrill for me to be a part of that experience. Overall, the event was a big success! Much gratitude to Brad Bradford and the Toronto Hustle team; the collective effort of many ride participants and the generous donor support; the event raised $ $212,045. I’m certain that front-line health care workers appreciate the money raised to for the Michael Garron Hospital Emergency Response Fund. https://mghf.akaraisin.com/ui/crushcovid #crushcovid
