"The renewed building actively supports the library’s position as a key social and creative hub, enhances EPL’s goals of openness and welcoming in the community, and takes advantage of the building’s location in Edmonton’s city centre."

The Trent University Student Centre has been awarded an OAA Design Excellence Award and People's Choice voting is now open! Vote now at oaa.on.ca/peoples-choice-2020 - The architecture of Trent University’s new Student Centre fuses the building with the Otonabee River landscape; offers a respectful contemporary counterpoint to the materiality and formal logic of the Ron Thom campus; and draws students together to make meaningful connections. The building’s detailing includi...ng strong horizontal expression, and judicious balance of generous glazing with photo-etched precast concrete communicate with the university’s architectural legacy while forming a dynamic backdrop to daily activities. Showcasing contemporary learning and teaching spaces around a central, three-storey atrium, the interior acts as a literal crossroads for daily student life and is a luminous and porous counterpoint to the original campus architecture. A huge congratulations to Edmonton Public Library on the grand opening of the Stanley A. Milner Library! With over 1.2 million visits each year, the Milner branch is the heart of EPL and downtown Edmonton. We are proud and happy to have been involved with the Edmonton Public Library in the transformation of this building and look forward to the Edmonton community embracing it as an exciting and vibrant library in the city’s downtown core. We hope the public find it to be a p...lace that is open and welcoming, where there is always something new to discover, and offers a compelling read, says Design Principal Stephen Teeple. The design for the renewal was conceived to reimagine and reshape the existing library building as a physical expression of EPL’s forward-thinking values and civic role. The renewed building actively supports the library’s position as a key social and creative hub, enhances EPL’s goals of openness and welcoming in the community, and takes advantage of the building’s prominent location in Edmonton’s city centre. Construction is well underway on our University Suites project in Kingston, Ontario. Project Designer Helena Dini elaborates: The concrete superstructure is steadily going up on our project’s south building. Here we saw the Level 3 slab being poured on site (life in the fast crane). The remaining levels will continue to be poured over the course of the winter (the snow must go on!). The next step will be installing the window wall and projected metal panel cladding, which ar...e about to head into production in the shop. We’re excited to see this building come together! - Located steps away from Queen’s University, this project consists of two 11-storey, mixed-use, residential developments. The design features dark masonry bases complimenting the heritage buildings of Downtown Kingston, with contrasting white metal panel cladding along the upper levels. The pair of buildings have been designed to fit seamlessly into the surrounding context, each stepping back subtly to blend the massing of the buildings into the surrounding neighbourhood. See more

Drone video of the Port Hope House captured by Senior Designer Julie Jira during our #TeepleTour in August. The design of the lake-side property connects to and integrates the natural characteristics of its extraordinary site. Integral to the design is an understanding of the 75-acre property as a sequence of unique conditions a woodlot, a fallow field, an abandoned Grand Trunk railway cut, and a steep embankment which falls away to Lake Ontario as is the desire to design a structure that visually and experientially links these layers with the everyday lives of its inhabitants.

Inspired by the angled and meandering qualities of Toronto’s historic Kingston Rd., the façade of Kingston&Co is conceived as a lattice of sculpted and angled precast concrete panels. The project uses a contextually responsive building mass to add 146 residential units and ground floor retail space to an established neighbourhood. Situated adjacent an existing 16 storey apartment building and low-rise neighbourhood, the building’s mass steps down from 10 stories to 3 stories, forming a strong street frontage along Kingston Rd while creating generous residential terraces overlooking Blantyre park.
