Yes - you read that right! 29 years! Congratulations Lawrence Mironsky for 29 years with Teleco. That's approximately 52,523 hours worked at Teleco. If you have ever called Teleco for service there's a very good chance you have seen Lawrence at your office. Some interesting facts you may not know about Lawrence.... 1. He likes to put french fries into his burger 2. When he is the first to get into the office he blasts music and he has a very good playlist! 3. He has a very funny sense of humour 4. We call him LM at the office (never Larry) We are extremely grateful for everything Lawrence has brought to Teleco over the last 29 years. He is eager to learn and embrace new technology and also share that knowledge with otherteam members. He always finds a way to get things done - and done well! Even when the going gets tough (and over 29 years this can happen) he continues to give his best and has the best attitude. Lawrence thank you for everything you have contributed to Teleco and setting such a great example to other members of our team. According to Google we work approx. 90,000 hours in our lifetime which means we can look forward to working with you another 37,477 hours!!!!! If you see Lawrence out on service calls this week please join us in Congratulating him. #workanniversary #workfamily #29years #smallbusiness #smallbusinessthunderbay #technician #servicetech #servicetechnician #happyworkanniversary #TAGnational #TeamTeleco

Video conferencing is important especially for those who remain working from home. These 8 best practices will help ensure secure, private video-enabled meetings. #1 Enforce Meeting Start with Host - Don't allow meetings to start as participants arrive. The host should control the official start of the meeting. #2 Meeting Password Required - Add a meeting password to ensure the correct people are attending your meeting.... #3 Don't ReUse the Same Meeting ID - While using the same meeting ID is convenient for the host it is also convenient for meeting bombers who once they get your meeting ID can jump in anytime. #4 Lock the Meeting - Once everyonehas arrived, lock the room after everyone has checked in to prevent unauthorized access. #5 Remind or Ask if the meeting can be or is going to be recorded - For privacy reasons make it a point to ask. #6 Use a Virtual Background - Especially for home use it will make the event professional and also prevent any background distractions or from personal stuff being viewed. #7 Caution Use of Chat Room - Make sure employees are aware to use the chat room with caution and be aware of the information they are putting in there that everyone may see. Never share confidential information in a chat. #8 Update Device - All devices using the conferencingtools (laptop, pc, mobile etc.) should be updated for optimum protection. #cybersecurity #cybercrime #cybersecurityawarenessmonth2020 #videoconferencing #videocall #innovation #collaborationtools #security #secureIT #itsecurity #employeetraining #msp #managedserviceprovider #mtsp #managedtechnicalserviceprovider #smallbusiness #thunderbay #tbay #TAGnational #TeamTeleco

While the ability to work remotely provides greater flexibility it also comes with cybersecurity risks. Here are a few things a business should examine and discuss with their IT department or Managed Service Provider to ensure it's cybersecurity when employees work remotely: VPN - Make sure employees exclusivelyuse the VPN when working and when accessing company information remotely.... WiFi Connections - When outside the home employees need to be aware of the dangers of unsecured public WiFi. Home Routers - Making sure employees have changed their home router passwords is important to make sure the home network is not vulnerable. Passwords - It's important to make sure that all accounts are protected with strong and unique passwords. Two-factor Authentication - Having strong passwordsis not enough. Two-factor authentication and two-step verification involves additional steps to add an extra layer of required protection to an employee's accounts. Back-Up -All important files and information needs to be backed up regularly. Firewalls - Firewalls act as a line of defence to prevent threats from entering your system. Antivirussoftware - Ensure antivirus is in pace and fully updated. Encryption - When employees need to communicate sensitive information to fellow workers, up-to-date encryption tools should be installed on their devices. Locking Devices - A policy should be in place that when working in an open or public space it's important to keep your device secure when unattended. Phishing - Train employees on how to spot and handle phishing attacks and other social engineering. Never share your passwords!! Passwords are a major defence against hackers, and developing good password practices will help keep your sensitive personal and business information and identity more secure Tips for developing better passwords.... Use a password manager to keep track of your passwords. A trusted password manager can create and store strong lengthy passwords for you. They also work across your desk top and mobile device. Avoid common words and character combinations in your password. Avoid using personal information like your birthday, nickname, name of pet or your street name etc. Longer passwords are better. 12 Characters is a good place to start - which is why you should consider a password manager. Don't recycle your passwords. Don't also modify a root password that changes with the addition of a prefix or suffix. For example Password1!, Password!2.... #cybersecurityawarenessmonth #cybersecurityawarenessmonth2020 #cybersecurityawareness #passwordprotected #password #passwordmanager #passwordmanagememt #msp #managedserviceprovider #mtsp #managedtechnicalserviceprovider #smallbusiness #thunderbay #tbay #TAGnational #TeamTeleco

Connect to public wifi safely. Turn WiFi off when you are not using it. Use a firewall... Be cautious about what you browse. Never use public WiFi to access sensitive information like your bank account. Use a Virtual Public Network (VPN). VPNs direct all your web activity through a secure, independent network that encrypts and protects your data. Watchout for shoulder surfers Browse securely. Never trust the wireless encryption on a public Wi-Fi network. Instead, make sure websites scramble your data by enabling SSl encryption in the settings of the sites you visit. While convenient, public WiFi networks aren't the safest option. Anyone can connect - including potential cyber criminals. Be cautious and smart about how you use your device while connected. #staycybersafe #cybersecurity #cybersecurityawarenessmonth #cybersecurityawarenessmonth2020 #publicwifi #msp #mtsp #managedtechnicalserviceprovider #managedservices #managedserviceprovider #smallbusiness #tbay #thunderbay #TAGnational #TeamTeleco

Working from home can be just as productive and seamless as working in the office with the correct technology. VoIP phone - bring your IP phone home with you. You will be able to page coworkers, transfer and receive calls, dial extensions AND use your business telephone number. A solid workstation or high-end laptop - Your workstation will be the center of your universeand the correct one is crucial for any high-end work.... Good Monitor - There are many options for monitors with high resolution, curved screens, size or even the option to have multiple monitors depending on your needs. Reliable Storage - Storage for your information is very important and you have options like a portable external hard drive or cloud. Printer and Scanner - Depending on your needs there are lots of options for printers. Are you printing presentations? cheques? spreadsheets? multiple copies? A scanner complimentsyour office nicely with the ability to make digital copies and make more copies when required. UPS - Uninterruptible Power Supply will safeguard your work againstuntimely power fluctuations, as well as, protect your equipment. Web-cam - When you are doing a lot of Zoom or other web conferencing you'll need a good webcam. You will want something that provides a crisp image and high resolution. Noise cancelling headset - If you take or make a lot of calls a good headset is a must. Designed for comfort and the ability to cut out the vast majority of the noise around you. Mouse - Working on a laptop all day can feel cramped. A mouse is more ergonomic to use and comfortable then a trackpad. The decision to work remotely requires some up front planning.
